Hello all:
Forgive my looong hiatus, we have been very, very busy with our church. A small church which I am a board member for and a lot going on. I have just begun my long distance learning for "The Berean, College of The Bible". Mind you, It's been nearly 19 years since I have taken any college courses and in that time, most predominantly in the last 5 years, my siezures have become worse to the point I no longer drive, and my memory is a bit slower. (of course this could be an age thing as well as having 5 kids, 3 of them teens). So, any support or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and most certainly your prayers. I do know that this is from the Lord and that he does indeed "equip the called", none the less my flesh still reminds me of my "short comings", but "Greater is he that is in me"....
Again, thank you for your prayers and support
God Bless....In HIS Service....Dan

Hey! I just finished three Berean courses in preparation for getting my credentials this year...

Do a lot of highlighting and underlining while you read! That really helped me to remember in my head when I took the tests...

Find a quiet place to study that works for you. I did my best work in a little coffee shop by where I work. The caffeine helped, too, lol!

Finally, and it sounds weird, but quote facts to all your family and friends who will listen. Seriously. My friends and husband got a little tired of me talking about the 16 Fundamentals and "The A/G was founded by so and so," and "The by-laws say such and such..." etc., but saying it out loud to people helped it stick, and they all dealt with it!

Hope these tips help, and God bless you! Are you getting credentialed, or are you just doing it for your own personal knowledge?

we had the option to buy " sermon tapes " of our classes .... listened to them during the week on hour commute each day ...... rewrite your notes when you get home , will help to flesh out the abbreviations , doodles , and short hand scribbles

He who started a work in you , will be faithful to complete it ....
If it gets bad , call out to God " daddy , fix it ... Psalm 118.5 ".

speak to the mountain before you , as abraham rejoiced in the child
he waited 25 years for ...

you are an overcomer .... romans 8.37

My suggestion would be that you find some companions for the journey, who could take the courses alongside you. I say this for several reasons...

- Ministry is all about relationships. Develop them while you can.

- The sense of comradery that you can gain from this type of experience is invaluable.

- There is an old proverb that states that many heads are better than one, and also that he who surrounds himself by many counsellors is wise. You can help one another to understand the more difficult principles discussed in the class.

- The memories that you can look back on and chuckle at in later years... I already laugh at some of the wild stuff that has happened during my time at Bible College.

- Different perspectives on the same principle (especially if you go through an inter-denominational college, as I did). It's like staring at and describing a cup from different angles in order to get a better idea of the entire picture.

So yeah, other than finding companions and remembering your primary text book (which, if it's Bible College or Seminary, I would HOPE it would be the Bible itself...), I can't think of anything else to add to this list. Keep it real...
