I'm Canadian. We're naive in the ways of the world. Actually, when I was younger I spent a summer in Sweden, and I was amazed to find that when they put American movies on TV they took the violence out, and left the sex in. But that's Sweden for you, they use half naked women to sell butter.

It seems to me that the ONLY acceptable Christian behavior to the general public is silence, or to fully support what one knows is evil and wrong. Sorry, I cannot agree. JESUS was hated. I don't expect better simply because I call myself a Christian.

They still do it in Europe, but then again Europe doesn't seem to share as many of America's sexual hangups, and are more tolerant of homosexuality in general. This supports my point that if homosexuality was no longer stigmatized, you'd be free to put your arm around a male friend without being teased.

LN, you are trying to have it both ways -- the crusade against homosexuality spilled over and made some traditional ways of men showing men affection to be ridiculed for "looking gay." You'll have to decide which you want more -- gays to be condemned, or you to be able to put an arm over your friend's shoulder and not be teased. Your call.

It did not.

I did not say that you were an example of a Christian who didn't exemplify the teachings of Christ. I don't know you. Perhaps you do. But you can't honestly argue that all people who call themselves Christians do so.

It is said that King David loved Johnathan more than any woman. Too bad the expression of strong companionship between men is becoming overshadowed by fear of appearing gay.

For my part, I do not find depictions of people with weapons to be disturbing. If legally having a weapon out openly persuades against violence, then it was worth it. An armed citizenry, or at the very least one which can arm itself if willing to, ensures autonomy.

Repressive governments will always seek to remove weapons from the civilians and concentrate them in the hands of the military, notably military that is under the control of the repressive government rather than answerable to the people.

These days, the opposite is apt to happen. Rather than being the first step, the confiscation of personal weapons will be the last. As a frog boiled slowly does not jump until it is too late, the rights accorded to the people will be removed one by one in the name of national security until only the right to bear arms is left. But by the time the lot falls to remove the right of arms, it will be far too late... for then neighbors will turn on each other, rather than resist, seeking to garner favor with their new masters.

Oh you know, the stereotypical gender roles men and women have to abide by. Women have to be all feminine, nurturing, modest, soft-spoken, etc. And men have act all masculine, like being assertive, never ever crying or showing an kind of emotion.

How do you define what is a man or woman? People can be born naturally looking like men but have XX chromosomes like women, or be born looking like women but have XY chromosomes like men. Hermaphrodites are naturally born. Plus, there are infants who suffer a botched circumcision and have their genders reassigned. What do you intend to do to those unfortunate people who do not fit your Procrustean bed?

Somehow I wonder if the good old days you long for even existed. You were probably too young to appreciate the underlying tensions and complexities.
