  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

And this isn't meant to flame or anything...I was curious how many people decorated their children's room with 'Noah's Ark' type stuff. I guess I just find it strange to put up decorations of mass murder on a childs' wall. So, could any christian tell me why the decorations? ( a relative had her kids room with it and I didn't think it appropriate to ask as it was a baby shower.)

I had Noah's Ark stuff in my son's first nursery. It was a boat with cute cartoon animals in it. I don't recall any dead bodies or angry God on it.

For that matter, my son now has a cross in his room. The cross literally was a hideous and torturous device of capital punishment. But that isn't why it is up there.

But back to the OP. What exactly constitutes acceptable nursery decor for a Christian's child? Circus? Nope...there is torture and enslavement of animals. Bears? They attack people IRL, don't they? Under the Sea? You mean where the toxic trash is or the man-eating sharks? Stars and Moons? Whoa...ask the Johnson & Johnson company what THAT is supposed to mean.

My point is, it is a boat with cartoon animals. And what Lily of the Valley said :)

Well, childhood and nurseries are largely an invention of the Victorian Era anyways. If people believe something to be true, I see no good reason to hide it from their child. And children like the story of the ark, not because they identify with the people but with the animals.

Lilly of the valley, Thank you for your response...unfortunately the accounts in Genesis don't say anything about any warnings or alot of time to repent.

100 years wasn't long enough? You might want to read Genesis to check it out! :)

Everytime you think you have heard everything, someone has to say something goofy like this.

Noah's ark is a cute theme. Kids like animals and boats, it makes them happy, so I don't see what the problem is. If you don't like what you feel the implications behind the Noah story are, then you are perfectly free to decorate your kid's room with anything you want, but I don't see why its your concern what anyone else does in this regard. Its not like they are hanging pictures of John Wayne Gacy and Ed Gein in the room. Get over it and focus on more important things.

The Lord delivering the only holy people on the earth isn't negative, nor is animals w/ people on an ark. Plus, God didn't murder anyone, he destroyed the wicked people on the earth after they didnt' heed and God gave them a lot of time to repent.

:amen: Sing it sister.

You too.

I didn't decorate my child's room with noah's ark, but I did give him some noah's ark toys. He loves the little boat with all of the animals. It's cute.

My husband and I have the same thought about Noah's Ark decorations. I'd say that I'd only find them disturbing if the people who put them up actually took the story literally, though. To celebrate what you believe was the literal destruction of nearly all life on earth is highly disturbing. But, if you take it as a mythological story, then it's no more disturbing then decorating with a Pooh theme or a Disney theme.

Gen 6:3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

Gen 6:3 - My spirit shall not always strive with man - The spirit then strove by Noah's preaching, 1Pe_3:19, and by inward checks, but 'twas in vain with the most of men; therefore saith God, he shall not always strive, for that he also is flesh - Incurably corrupt and sensual, so that 'tis labour lost to strive with him. He also, that is, all, one as well as another; they are all sunk into the mire of flesh. Yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years - So long will I defer the judgment they deserve, and give them space to prevent it by their repentance and reformation. Justice said, cut them down; but mercy interceded, Lord, let them alone this year also; and so far mercy prevailed, that a reprieve was obtained for six score years. ~commentary
