so as an atheist you are happy with liberal beliefs but not fundie beliefs? That and questioning fundie knowledge of their own theology. But going offtopic was inevitable
I don't think it matters if she's an atheist or not, what I imagine irks her are people who refuse to acknowledge objective evidence (like fundies)Dear Wednesday,

well, go to far down THAT rabit hole... all knowledge is flavoured by SOME type of bias... the trick is to be aware of it, and do ones best to be objective.Ahhh, but to acknowledge whether something is objective is a subjective decision in itself.
Bonobos?EP2, yep, did it last night.

Well thats not my point, my point is that logically if the atheism is right then fundies faith in Jesus Christ is in vain and liberals like atheists dont have any faith in Jesus Christ.I don't think it matters if she's an atheist or not, what I imagine irks her are people who refuse to acknowledge objective evidence (like fundies)
I know this wasn't directed at me, but I want to answer it anyway.Dear Wednesday,
so as an atheist you are happy with liberal beliefs but not fundie beliefs?
how is that possible? If you were open to them you'd believe them to be true, and would therefore not be an atheist?Yep, that's it
Just because I'm an atheist does not mean that I'm not open to beliefs of others as long as those beliefs don't hurt others.
Looks like you just judged fundamentalists yourself. Not all fundamentalists are unlike Christ in their walk. Also fundie's baseless hate towards their neighbour and constant judging and condemning.
Fundies are so unlike their Christ.
I know this wasn't directed at me, but I want to answer it anyway.
Yes, I like liberal/modern christian beliefs but detest fundamentalist beliefs. Basing your moral code on the general ideas taught by Jesus of love and acceptance and doing good in the world is great. Basing your beliefs on blind faith of sometimes contradictory material that requires you to perform morally questionable acts (bombing abortion clinics, god hates [wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth] websites, etc) while encouraging you to not think for yourself.
"Open" means "willing to listen and re-evaluate"... it doesn't mean "already believes"how is that possible? If you were open to them you'd believe them to be true, and would therefore not be an atheist?

Thats right. which is different to saying openness meansBeing open to something means you entertain the idea, instead of instantly finding ways to deny it.

Atheism is not a religion. Atheism is not a belief in disbelief, it is merely the absence of belief... the same way darkness is an absence of light, or cold is an absence of heat... they aren't some sort of reverse light or heat, merely an absenceatheism is a religion in itself, its a belief in unbelief. If you start every conversation inherently believing that what they are telling you is not true, then you are not open to them.
Lack of belief also includes ignorance to beliefs as well. Atheists know of major religions, or were previously involved in one. They went from that, to disbelieving it as truth, and are now atheist. So how is disbelief not involved again?Atheism is not a religion. Atheism is not a belief in disbelief, it is merely the absence of belief... the same way darkness is an absence of light, or cold is an absence of heat... they aren't some sort of reverse light or heat, merely an absence
Yet bombing abortion clinics is fundamentally not fundamental Christianity, I would say it isn’t Christianity at all, if it were it would be liberal Christianity as it compromises the teaching of Jesus.I know this wasn't directed at me, but I want to answer it anyway.
