  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

my cat is 12 years old (domestic shorthair). i don't know if i should be worried about this or not. she's been shedding a lot, like tons. but it hasn't been just this season or something it's been going on a while. she doesn't have any bald spots but she does have this dandruff type stuff on her skin. it also comes out in clumps, like i can tell if i can pull it out because it's turned a brownish color. just recently i pulled out a huge amount of hair. i mean it's really gross. is it because she's getting older or what? :help:

A trip to the vet is in order--this isn't ordinary shedding or dandruff. Have a full bloodwork panel done, including thyroid. Thyroid problems often show up first as changes in the skin and coat. Another possibility is allergies--which can show up at any age, to anything.

Another thought: What are you feeding her? Did you change her food to a less expensive (and possibly lower quality) brand? If not, she may still be reacting to it--as she's getting older, she may be less able to get all the nutrients she needs from her food. Try switching to a higher grade of food, and see if that helps. Do still take her to the vet, though.

There is a product that has really helped ur older cats. I'm new and don't know if I can say here what it is or where to order it but you can email me from my profile I guess. It basicly balences the immune system and helps older kitties and humans too get more benefit from what they eat. This does sound like a vet trip is in order. Please pet your cat for me and send her greetings from our kitties here in GA.

It could be the food. My dog had this problem, also smelled really bad right after a bath even. I switched her to a dog food that had no corn in it and viola! the smell went away so quick ( and the itching and scratching) that I thought someone else in the house had given her a bath.

So could be an allergy.
