  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Got the bi-monthly church newsletter today and inside is a letter from the Parish Nurse. She doesn't say why but she says the American Acadamy of Pediatrics says children 1-6years should get only 4-6 oz of juice and 7-18years should only get 8-12oz.

This seems a little strict, since there is sugar in just about everything including milk. I would assume that goal of limiting juice would be to avoid creating bad habits of kids the ONLY drink pop or juice which might lead to cavities and weight gain.

Canned fruit is not all right, is full of preservatives.

How come fruit is so expensive in the states? Do you not have markets where you can buy fresh fruit and veg for a fraction of supermaket prices? Or a local green grocers?

In season fresh fruit is not expensive. Especially compared to garbage sugary preserved snacks. Even in the supermarket most fruits (in season) are not expensive

Canned fruits are not all full of preservatives, many of them are canned in their own juices you just have to check the ingredients and make sure you're not buying the preserved for eternity version of canned fruit. In general I believe though when it comes to fruits and veggies you aim for fresh, then frozen and last canned.

Not everyone has access to farmer's markets and fresh produce markets but for the most fruits in season aren't terribly expensive.

I've tired peeled slices with cinnimon and sugar, plain, caramel dip and peanut butter. He acts like I'm forcing him to eat lead by the way he goes on, hehe.

I think I will sneak em in an apple pie. Hehe

I think half the problem is his dad hates fruit and won't eat it so he sees that and all 7 year old boys have to be just like daddy.

Got some cans of mixed fruit packed in own juice with only the can to preserve it. We'll try this next.

Try bananas, oranges, strawberries, grapes, kiwi fruit, mango, melon, pears instead. For my kids, depending on what's in season, I give them a plate of chopped fruit, lots of different colours and textures.

Don't stock any crisps or buscuits, only fruit, he'll eat it if he's hungry and there is no alternative.

try vegetables, try exotic flavors, try one you have never had, and don't let him know you are 'trying to get him to eat them' just make it a part of daily life, or a treat preferably, DD and DS think getting real fruit (fresh) is the greatest thing. Mainly cause it is work :). (yes you really do need to cut up the fruit for a 1 year old and yes I do think of that as work!)
