His example helps >
"And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma." (Ephesians 5:2)
Jesus wants us to be and live in His love, while doing the things to help others. Our calling is to serve by doing good to needy people, and pointing out what is wrong, yes, but this needs to be with Him in His love, with His example to feed us
"Then He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach," (Mark 3:14)
Their calling was not only to preach and, as the next verse says, do wonders. But they were called to
"be with Him". They were personally sharing with Jesus, personally submitting to Him. And our calling first is about being with God in His love, submitting to Him and how He corrects us and guides us each, personally; and this is so we are sharing with our Father in His own love >
"Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us." (Romans 5:5)
And in this love we have our Father's personal guiding to do the loving things which He really wants and knows is right for loving each person; plus in this love we have
"rest for your souls" (Matthew 11:28-30), so that we don't waste ourselves emotionally while doing His will. He will make sure we have the strength and the guiding so we do not get wasted emotionally, and so we don't waste time and attention and resources in doing what is not His will and will not work.
"So, the works that burn can include what we take on ourselves to do, without listening to our Father first."
