  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-2. So what do ya think?

Agreeing with Willie (see below)! Clearly the Bible is not saying "Do Not Judge, period"! Is this what you wanted to know, or did you want to address a different aspect of these verses? If so, what was your "what do ya think" actually referring to ..

Thanks!

“Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces." Matthew 7:6
“Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits." Matthew 7:15-16a

“Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.” John 7:24

If only Matthew 7:1 applies then Jesus wasted saliva on Matthew 7:2

Is it a bad thing to make a righteous judgement and you'll be righteously judged too in return?

If you never judge, it means you'll go straight to Heaven even if you are the worst sinner and never repented. I don't think that's what Jesus meant.

I agree with Willie, Matthew 7:3-5 says to first take care of your own sin so you can see clearly to judge your brothers.

first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

However, Paul said that we are not to judge those outside the faith (which is how we get into trouble with the world ;)).

1 Cor 5:12 What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside?
