Judgement on megachurches

"Most churches in America have organized as "501c3 tax-exempt religious organizations."

For instance, there are 270 churches listed as having 501c(3) status in my home city of nearly one million people.

I ma be wrong, but I think that there are more than 270 churches in my home city.

Does anyone know how to ascertain any estimate of how many churches are in your area ?

I found it ... there are 2,900 churches/(centers of worship) in our city.

So ... it looks like maybe a tenth of them are officially 501c(3) ...

The requirements for preserving church tax-exemption and being officially 501c(3) aren't all that different. The major difference is that you have to file with the IRS annually.
