Wait, that sounds messed up. I have never seen the priest play a political tape, plus our church does not even have any screens, not even a screen to tell us which page to turn to in the hymnal, unless a TV can be rolled in on a cart.
It was audio cassette. They also sent one for the annual diocesan appeal.
Which church did you go to?
Beyond noting it is the same church you go to, I shall not say more.

We never played any audio cassettes either. Looks like your church that you used to go to was a little political, or you had a bad Archbishop. If my church plays political stuff, I might walk out, and wait until the next Sunday.

The church that I go to does have prayers, and we pray for the reduction of gun violence, protection of life, the protection of the environment and for world peace. :)

Aren't they all bad? Back then they spent a lot of their time covering up sex-pest priests and they still had time to send out (about once a year) a tape on a "moral issue" (cough - politics).

Oh we prayed for that stuff too. Fat lot of good it did.

What legal principle is a district court judge using to enforce an injunction in the parts of the circuit outside their district?
Good question......I was also wondering if this ruling was based on legal precedent or activism. I remember when the Conservatives were upset because of "Activist Judges." I wonder if the judge is a Conservative activist if that makes it acceptable. I don't know all of the details on why or why not Title IX is legal.

Well, we can not make a generalization that all churches are bad. And yes, it does seem like the prayers are not answered for large scale things, but for smaller things, God has answered some of my prayers. I have prayed to make more Christian friends and friends in general, and I have met a few over the past few months, one by random happenstance in late June, 2024.

What about little kids? They're supposed to walk around with their eyes closed too?
Keep men out of women’s spaces. Period. It doesn’t matter what they identify as. Period.

The archbishops can't go a full year with out a political tape to play. You priest may keep politics out of his homilies, but the archbishop will still send the tape. I recall the priest stating he was required to play a tape almost apologetically on a couple of occasions.
What politics? Some theology may mingle with some “political groups” because that’s part of life. It is what it is.

Agreed. Their minds may identify as the opposite gender, but their bodies don't.

They need real help, such as talk therapy. Not affirmation their so called identity is real or valid.

I wasn't speaking of all churches, just one large, hierarchical church...

Are you familiar with how cold-reading works? It's all about remembering the hits and forgetting the misses.

Ooh, I have never heard of cold-reading before. How does that work?

But yes, I do see how statistically, it would seem that some prayers are answered, however, God does work in ways that we may not understand. That will not shake my faith. :) But hey, I am accepting if one is not a Christian, and I see a valid point, as the far-right have made Christians appear to be jerks. There are plenty of centrist and leftist Christians who support peace and helping others. I am one of them (near the center).

The Biden Administration had included "gender" identity as something that one cannot discriminate against into the 14th amendment (I think?) by executive order. This isn't how amendments are changed....so whenever a state law or lawsuit fought against it, the Administration has essentially backed off and not fought it.

After all, fighting it and losing would result in it's removal.

It looks as if someone is finally interested in legally fighting for it....and in all likelihood, they'll lose. This is something that needs to be passed as legislation and voted on. It's much like the ATF redefining various guns and gun accessories into illegal categories only to learn later they can't legally do that.

I suspect the Dept of Education isn't listening to their lawyers.

Title IX would have to be rewritten to accommodate the new proposed Final Rule, which would require Congress to act, and that ain’t gonna happen.

Exactly, writing "new rules" is the job of Congress (yes...they have a job). It all goes back to the whole separation of powers thing.

This is also why this administration has buckled whenever one of their racist DEI rules goes into effect (like denying white farmers federal loans). They know that if they actually allow the case to go to a ruling....they'll lose....and with few "achievements" to speak of, they want to keep that one on the books. That way, even if they can't get away with the racial discrimination they support....at least they support it on paper.

A cold reading is a "psychic" technique use to make marks think that the medium/psychic knows something they don't actually know. It typically involves rapid fire questions/suggestions of a vague nature and watching for responses to those vague questions. For example a medium offering contact with the dead might start by claiming they are "seeing" a name of someone "on the other side trying to contact us" beginning with "M .. no, A .. no, C .. no T" and usually the mark will blurt out "my mother's name was Connie". It goes on from their, with a name and a relationship then a list of reasons why someone might want to contact their dead mother. Again a list of rapid fire vague suggestions are made looking for general areas until some hint of recognition refines the probe. And so it goes. Because we tend to forget wrong guesses and remember the correct ones, the poor woman will leave and tell her friends that "he contacted my mother, he knew her name and about the fight we had before her car wreck. That's what a cold read is. A "hot read" is when the fraud has information ahead of time and the "revelations" come from just knowing stuff. (If I had your ID, but you didn't know it, it would be easy to find what HS you went to etc.)

And it really does work. I dated a woman for a while who did it for a (pretty good) living with Tarot cards. It takes a knack, and some people can cold read better than others.

Ooh, I stay away from psychics. It reminds me of the game 20 questions, which I had as a kid.

Agreed. I stay far away from scammers, and sometimes, it is fun to watch videos of scammers getting caught. :)

But yes, the 20 Questions game was turned into an electronic game. It is nostalgic. But, I did throw it off the deck as a nine-year-old, to see if the device was as drop proof. End result: The purple plastic casing shattered like an egg, so I had to throw it away. Yes, I broke a lot of stuff as a kid. But hey, now in 2024 I have an AI to mess around with on my laptop which is millions of times more advanced, as the 20Q had only 10,000 possible outputs.

The 15-year-old electronic gadget is probably more accurate than the AI.
