  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My Friend has just converted from catholicism. He has spent much time lately in the word of God and to his surprise found out that he just cant believe Catholic Doctrines anymore..

He has been out of the church for a few months, but he has been witnessing to his family alot, and they are slowly coming around. If you can pray that he is successful in his witness and that God continues to show him a discerning heart as to whats right, as thier is alot of garbage floating around these days. That would be great. Also pray for his family.

Great post! That's just what I was thinking. I'm happy for the OP's friend, it's great when someone finds a church they feel comfortable with, but Christian denominations shouldn't evangelize to eachother or celebrate taking members from eachother. There are billions of non-Christians out there we should be focusing on.

I have seen a number of posters report problems with backlash after a conversion from one church to another. Perhaps the lesson we should learn from this is that, if someone from our church goes to another church, we should be kind, rather than condemning.

I will pray for your friend and his family.

I will pray that they all find peace and joy in Christ.

I am a Catholic, and I love the church. I would be lying if I said I thought that he made a wise choice. But the most important thing is that he stay Christian... and if his new found denomination has sparked him into witnessing to his family... I think that is good. :)

There is really only one church and we all are truly one.

Being one will not come with a change of dogma or any other form of principle of our belief in God. Our unity will come spiritually, from a common love for each other.

peace.

Amen - schism is a sin of the heart that goes to center of every person. It's not just a thing that institutions do. Unity as Christ desired comes from a heart of love for those Christ has chosen as His children.

While i agree to an extent it is important hmm, how should i say. To know correct doctrinal truths laid forth in the bible, not all protestant doctrines are right either, but now he can interpret it for himself, freely and pray over it.

Hopefully others enjoyed your post as much as I did. :)

My hope is your post falls under "fellowship". I don't think you could call yourself "Catholic" if you thought the decision to "convert" from Catholicism to another faith was the best choice, but yet you still pray for them and see something positive in it. That says a lot. :)

And…this is just a guess based on my own personal feelings, but a lot of us might object to these kinds of comments. Let’s get this straight. Just because you say we shouldn’t try to convert them doesn’t make it so. There is nothing negative about attempting to do so or them choosing to do so, outside of the difficulties that can ensue with family and friends as a result which have already been mentioned. .
