Josh was one month from turning 25 when he overdosed on drugs on 3/1/07. He had gotten clean and then went back to Florida for a court hearing and fell right back into the drugs.
I hate that his drug use will be the last thing anyone will remember him for. I knew him since he was 13. He never overcame how his sister was murdered when she was 13 - she was 2 years older than he was and I never had a chance to know her. His dad, the man who became my husband, never has really overcome that either and now both of his children are gone.
Josh was a smart young man who was successful with everything he tried. I used to tease him that I never wanted to help him out a resume together as there would be too many things to list - no one would believe all of it but it would have been true! My favorite skill he had was his ability to cook. He started as a helper in a pretty well-established Italian eatery here and soon became head chef!He used to teach me how to make a few things but I never got the chance to learn all that I could have from him.
At 13 he was able to help his dad at the machine shop and could run a Bridgeport without help. At 21 he was running all kinds of construction machinery with total mastery.
Josh attended a Christian school when he was younger. We knew he accepted Christ as his savior and believed in God to his dying day. I know he was a sinner - all of us are. I long for the day we are reunited with him! His loss leaves a hole in my chest that actually howls. He was no "step son", that boy was my SON!
Hate the sin, never stop loving and praying for the sinner.
