Synopsis?
The Daily Shows correspondent Jessica Williams did her typical faux reporting to Stewart in studio. She discussed some new terrorist groups Americans may not know about. Williams then joked, Just as you were talking, a new terrorist group formed, with one member each from ISIS, al-Nusra, Al Qaeda, Hamas, One Direction and the Zetas drug cartel.
They made a joke about terrorist groups and threw in One Direction and the Zetas for comic effect. One of the members of One Direction is of Pakistani descent, so some interpreted it as the Daily Show calling him a terrorist.
*insert swarm of angry One Direction fans on Twitter here*
If they were talking about him specifically, then yes it is insulting. If they were using the name of the group without knowing who the members of the group are, then it is much ado about nothing. I would say this is about as serious as their NAMBLA jokes. So it's not insulting to imply that a Pakistani is a terrorist?
ooookay.
The rulez...dey keep changing.
Uh, the Zetas are terrorists though. They made a joke about terrorist groups and threw in One Direction and the Zetas for comic effect. One of the members of One Direction is of Pakistani descent, so some interpreted it as the Daily Show calling him a terrorist.

They are not considered a terrorist organization.
They are a violent drug cartel, I'm pretty sure the government classification of the organization is irrelevant to their victims. Resorting to an emotional, pulling at the heart strings response does not take away from the fact that they are not a terrorist organization. While a gang or drug cartel can terrorize their victims, that does not make them a terrorist organization, no more than a terrorist organization that funds their attacks with drug money are a drug cartel.I'm sure the families of the citizens, police, politicians and journalist they've murdered, dismembered then put on display, feel safe that the Zetas aren't considered a terrorists organization.
I'm more surprised that a fan of one direction watches Jon Stewart than Stewart making a stupid joke.
