  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Umm, at the top of her post she did state that it was coming from her dad. Not sure if he wrote it or what's going on...

Yes, but notice that, after she said so, she referred to him in the third person ("He was a SeaBee in the United States Navy for 22 years.", "He worked along side Marines, dressed like Marines", etc). This shows that she is the one talking.

Given the inaccuracies in her description of sea duty, as well as day to day life in the Marine Corps and a complete misunderstanding of the nature of the war in Iraq (not to mention grammar that your average sixth grader wouldn't use!), it's pretty unlikely that this was written by a grown man who had spent twenty-two years in the Navy.

I mentioned the part about five star hotels to my former sister in law, who is career Navy and is currently stationed in Diego Garcia, and I don't think she's stopped laughing yet.[/QUOTE]

I know. I'm just trying to give her the benefit of the doubt.

I thought five star hotels were for the Air Force? My bad! ;)

I am or never have been in the Armed Services. I have a great respect for those who have, who do, and who will. But I have to agree with some of the others. Ask yourself Why? From what I have read, there are many warnings about ones footsteps.
Pay very close attention to where you walk. I wouldn't believe ever thing that recruiter says. Trust in the Lord, get the counsel of the Wise.

I am going to join the Marines I have always wanted to join the Marines. My father was also a Marine and I am very proud of that as well. You know what better way can you show your love for the country and the people in the country then by fighting for what you believe in and putting your life on the line for them and the country. I think it is an excellent choice even if your in it for the minimal amount of time you will grow up and become a very respectible man.

Dear Americans

I wonder sometimes just how many times a person dies a cowards death during a life time???

There are folks living in this country that have taken the free ride over our forefathers graves that gave their lives so that we could have this country just the way it is today.

No were not a perfect nation but do we know one that is.

It takes a lot of courage for a man or women to sign on the dotted line that might very well mean that he or she will be the one to give up all so that the folks in this country will have a life worth living.

It is the cowards that bring this country to shame.

GOD'S WORD says:

" THOSE THAT WILL LOSE THEIR LIFE WILL SAVE IT AND THOSE THAT SAVE THEIR LIFE WILL LOSE IT "

I wonder just how many folks in this country are really the walking dead???

We voted by majority in this country for the Commander-in-chief. His actions might be right or wrong but he is still the very head of our nation and the decisions he makes will determine the life we are to live.

To not give him full support as to the defence in this country makes you a coward in this nation.

MAY GOD BLESS THE HERO'S OF THIS NATION!!!

WE ALL NEED TO REMEMBER:

X Even though you can't see him, GOD is there!!! O

So you want to join the military, I hope you know what your in for. Make sure whatever category you go in as - it's one that has recognised qualifications outside of the defence force. I was in for some time - after years of category specific training now that I'm out all I can say is that I can read a mean morse code and have a list of countries I could never visit on holiday. Go for useful categories not fun ones. Things like being a cook, steward, writter are good ones.

If the military was just about the job and going places it would be great but it's not. There's this whole underground politics that has to be played. If people in heiracy decide for some reason they don't like you (and it could be as simple as just doing your job and because they're slack you make them look bad, huh?) they will gun for you like there is no tomorrow - all within the rules of course but those rules don't really protect you. You try to defend your rights you'll get labeled as weak and a whiner. So if your not "one of the boys" types I would say it's really not the place for you.

I'll put it the easiest way I can - If someone asked me if I'd rejoin the millitary I'd say "I'd rather swollow raser blades."

This may sound like a strange topic for someone like me, but joining the U.S. Marine Corp has become a serious option to me and I am wondering if anyone here is or has been a Marine. I am really scared about joining the military, and advice and comfort couldn't be any more welcome.

Know what you are getting into. If you join the marines right now, you better be commited to the war on terrorism. And you should understand a bit of history. History which you are unlikely to finds in school.

WWII -- Many Americans and Europeans did not condemn Hitler rebuilding the German military before that war, even though it was in direct violation of the treaty Germany was forced to sign as a result of their instigation in the First World War, the Versailles Treaty.

Further, there were protesters even back then to our helping out of Britain as she was getting brutally bombed by the Germans. These people are called "isolationists".

After Pearl Harbor the sentiment vastly changed. We entered that great war and fought for some very noble causes.

Today, many people condemn us not only for fighting in that war, but for winning it. Because many people within our own country and without hate America. These people primarily hate America because America represents the core Christianity of the West.

the Korean War -- Few wars in history have been fought for more noble reasons then the Korean War. Once again, a minority, the South Koreans, were being crushed by the Soviet Union through North Korea. After decades of ruthless enslavement the Koreans had just been able to take a breath... before their own brothers came in and started slaughtering them to force upon them sheer, ruthless totalitarianism.

Yet, today, many condemn us even for that.

the Vietnam War -- There are few differences between the Vietnamese War and the Korean. Once again, the SOviet Union was dividing a nation and forcing a brutal campaign against the South Vietnamese. We came to their aid. We fought poorly... instead of bombing the North like we could have we listened to threats from the Soviet Union and kept it a ground war. Largely this can be attributed, however, to a growing anti-American sentiment within our own country.

When we pulled out of Vietnam... the entire region of Southeast Asia collaped. Tens of millions of people died as a result of this. They were brutally slaughtered in Cambodia and Vietnam. Many Vietnamese and Cambodians fled to the US to literally escape with their lives.

To this day Vietnam remains totalitarian Communist as does Laos. Cambodia has since become freed, ironically, with the help of Laos, but largely because the brutal campaign there was simply so severe -- per capita, it was the worst genocide in history.

And, to this day, the people who supported the Viet Cong under the guise of "peace" have largely been able to control how these events appear. These young elites at the time had moved on to positions of power in every strata of society.

Shamelessly, they have never looked back. We as a nation have never truly looked back. The European nations who stood with these hippies never looked back. Great devastation was wrought... the West turned against the poor South Vietnamese... and no one looked back.

Instead, ever since, the "peace" movement has been largely praised in Western society. Effectively, these people did the very same thing over the Rwandan and Sudanese genocies as well -- though in these cases no one actually helped out (or has yet). If anyone did help out in these genocides from the West, if casualities were taken, then - believe me - the West would be up in arms over it. And they would call themselves "heroes" for doing so.

So, that is what you are going into.

All that said, here is the truth. Yes, our country considers national defense before acting. With both Korea and Vietnam we could say we wanted to stop the rise of Communism. But, the men on the ground, and even the leaders who led us into these wars understood that all men and women deserve to have the same freedoms we have here.

One freedom the totalitarianists of the world does not want anyone to have is the freedom to be a Christian. Be that totalitarian an Islamist, a Nazi, or a Communist -- they are all in agreement there.

You may very well have to face negative sentiment from some people in the world, even while you know you are striving for what is right. But, you will join the call to be a hero, to fight for truth, and that is what call you should answer. Is there a more noble pursuit in the world?

I was in the marine corps, I did a four year enlistment. If you are looking for a nice uniform and a hot chick then don't do it. Play football instead. However, if you're looking to become a warrior then the Marines is the place for you. Expect hardship, sacrifice, and misery...but they will make you a warrior, without fear of death and only love for your brother warriors.

Hi,
I too would also like to join the marines and have thought about it myself. If you don't like the rigorus training then mabye you could do army? Or you could see how far you could push yourself and get through it. That may be more fun than you expected.

It may be unbearable for a little bit but I hear that
Marine Drill Sergeants only fail about 15% of recruits (it's easier to get in than out). I highly doubt you would fail because one- you are a christian and you can push yourself with your faith, and two- you have the courage to seriously think about joining.
It sounds like you are a little uneasy. You should trust in God to do what is right for you. If you feel like you want to join then strap on your cowboy boots and go for it!
