I, too, shall pray for this great saint of God and ask that you all remember my father in your prayers as well. He was diagnosed with lung cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. Please ask that the Lord be with him and comfort him in this time of trial.

I am praying for Mr. Piper and his family. God has used his writings, and his overall outlook on life, to bless so many people (myself definitely included). I pray for healing, if it is God's will in this situation, I pray for comfort and peace in God for John and his family, and I pray that God uses this trial to draw John even closer to Himself (as it seems is already happening, from the announcement). Thank you for letting us know.

Don, I am also praying for your father and family. I pray that he finds great peace and comfort in the Lord at this time. Please tell him that Christian brothers and sisters from around the U.S. (maybe the world?) are praying for him. Thank you for telling us about his condition. May God bless you and your family with a deep, deep sense of His sovereign, loving presence and care at this time.

A friend just e-mailed this to me - I came here to see if the news had already been posted, which of course it had. I've learned so much reading Pastor Piper's books - he wisdom that can only come from God.

Reading Dr. Piper's letter reminded me of the letter Dr. James M. Boice wrote to 10th Presbyterian at the time of his cancer diagnosis. God had gifted these men with great courage and strength at a time when doubts can easily creep in.

Amen. In fact, I posted a link to it at a different Christian forum where there has been raging debates lately with a very vocal WoF guy. I titled the post 'True Christian Respone to Cancer', and it has been receiving replys like "Thanks for the link. And especially thank you for the very timely BIBLICAL perspective on life and the afflictions that are a part of it. That kind of faith is inspiring.
I will keep this Servant in prayer."

Thanks for that. I thought of a couple of discussions here in the general theology forum and doing this very thing.

I and many people I know have been blessed greatly through Piper's ministry. We will surely remember him, his family and his congregation in prayer.
