  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This is less a reflection on McCain, and more on the "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" fallacy that has driven U.S. foreign policy, often to disastrous ends.

Sometimes the enemy of your enemy is...well, just a somewhat less noisome enemy.

I am very pro-Kosovo, mainly because my brother-in-law is Montenegran and has kind of convinced me to hate Serbia. Does that mean I support terrorism? No. The slimes from both sides are stupid.

The KLA is a terrorist organization linked to bin Laden.

It is an undisputed fact that McCain supported the KLA.

This is just a piece of the old Cold War rivalry when the Afghanistan invasion pitted our nemesis Soviet Russia against Islamic fundamentalists. At that time, communism was seen as a bigger threat than Islamic fundamentalism, probably at least in part because the Soviets had thousands of nuclear warheads aimed at us.

Never said he didn't. The problem is the premise as spelled out in the op title. That's a hefty charge mandating iron strong evidence. All the op does is present bits and pieces of a much more complex and historical situation. http://www.infoplease.com/spot/kosovo1.html

The KLA was in response to the Serbian government killing albanian civilians and finally kosovo recently recovered it's independence again after losing it in 89.' So this propaganda is also rooted in the current islamaphobic stew because serbs (Christians) are on one side and albanians (muslims) are on the other side. When the Christian government started whacking civilians it wasn't terrorism but when muslims fought back they get called terrorists.

No party is completely innocent but that doesn't qualify the charge mccain is a terrorist supporter. So instead of plunging political discussion further down the sewer lines we should work towards eradicating carefully crafted pontificating partisan bellows.

The bottom line: it wasn't our fight, and we should have kept out of it. This was a rivalry going all the way back to the Middle Ages, yet we just waded right on in where angels fear to tread.

One of America's biggest foibles is its father-knows-best foreign policy.
