  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I hate to admit this, but when I owned a Christian bookstore I refused to stock John MacArthur books. If people wanted to order a copy, I would order it for them but I did not want him on my shelves.

One of the reasons I would not stock JMac was because he had a tendency to call names in his incessant attacks on Charismatics. Because he had been proven wrong so many times and I knew some of the people he attacked personally (and knew he was wrong), I felt his research was faulty, at best, or intentionally false, at worst. I was personally offended by is inaccurate, spurious, off-the-wall comments about the fellowship with which I am affiliated in his books Charismatic Chaos. Rich Nathan soundly defended against his false charges (to see article, link here).

I have a problem with teachers who throw out charges without getting their facts straight and then when soundly refuted refuse to offer an apology or repent of bearing false witness. JMac is one of those people.

Personally, I think he is a bully with a bully pulpit and I have told him so (although he probably never read my email).

So do I. Strange thing, though, Hank Hanegraaf attends Calvary Chapel, Costa Mesa.
Go figure.

I wonder what he would say about some things I experienced there.

But CCCM is pretty staunchly against WoF for various reasons we have gone into many times.

ROFL......I had HH autograph my copy of Christianity in Crisis back in 1994....^_^

Do I think he's a little......hhmm.....rigid? Yes. Do I think he painstakingly documented his research? Yes.

Am I Charismatic? Yes!

Man, we Christians are a strange bunch aren't we?!!!.....^_^

Grace and Peace,
Asaph

We are strange (peculiar, I thinkthe KJV calls us). :)

But if you really think he rpainstakenly researches his "facts", check out the article link in post#4.

Heck, I'll save you time, I'll put the link here.

I used to have a few of his books from the 80's, but after the horrible hatchet job he did on the Vineyard in "Charismatic Chaos", I just threw his books out. Couldn't help but notice that almost all of his 90's output was attacking anybody who didn't agree with -- well, him.

I'm all for healthy critique, but MacArthur's questionable methodology and "facts" doesn't qualify as legitimate critique, just a knee-jerk anti-charismatic attack.

Can anyone tell I feel strongly about this? :)
