  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

He was a nut and ppl praise him way too much and give him way too much credit and I think Yoko is who ruined him, filled his head with atheism.

I think he was totally an atheist and his "Imagine" song that everyone thinks is so inspiring... it's atheist universalist tripe, IMO. But i do think it's a good song as far as songs go.

I don't like the "imagine" song either, because one of the lines says - what if there wasn't religion - and that was implied to be a good thing.

I don't know much about the Beatles or about John Lennon.... but I was just surprised to read that interview.

This is true. I remember when that statement went public in America. The way my friends and I heard it was that lennon had said the beatles were more popular than Jesus Christ. We were shocked but we all were die hard beatle fans so we soon forgot what he had said.

Later John became an atheist which is what The song "Imagine" is all about.

"Imagine no religion...no hell below us...above us only sky." Its a beautiful melody but the lyrics are very deceptive. You cant have peace without The Prince of Peace.

I agree! :amen:

I have a feeling you already judged him.. :(

Actually I'm kinda leaving it up to God. :) I'm going to be honest...I don't like what he said there. And I dont like the 'imagine' song. BUT..I don't know what was in his heart, why he said it, and if he ever turned to God....He knows though.

I just wish that John Lennon knew the Lord, that's all...just like I wish everyone on earth knew Him.

I think that the beatles were good at expressing human love. On the other hand though, they didn't understand who Jesus really was.

Love of people is only half of the story.

No doubt, I do really like alot of beatle songs. I REALLY do.

but yet, the songs "Imagine" and the one by George Harrison about "Hari Krisna" well they lead to to think that the beatles did not have faith in Jesus as the true Son of God.

I still think they were good people though.

Well yeah, we do know that he did reject his faith but then again, nobody knows if the Lord did come to him as he lay there dying. There are very many death bed conversions that I have heard of. So we really can't say with certainty that he went to hell.

Maybe we should open a new thread...so far 2 Beatles in Hell...

No doubt! we can't know that they are in hell for sure. We can only hope that they aren't. My grandma had a death bed conversion and even with tubes all in her and being unable to talk, she worked up enough strength to write a few lines to my mom on a piece of paper that said "Sweetie, I love God." She died a little while later.

I grew up on the Beatles, saw their first appearence on the Ed Sullivin show, thought they were the cutest guys on the planet and loved them BUT they were into drugs and what was called "free love" (sex) in my day. SP Lonely Heart's Club Band was an album heavily influenced by drugs. They had a huge influence on the youth culture both in positive and negative ways.

Did you know anything about the rumor in the late 60's and early 70's about Paul being dead?

PS don't get me wrong...I still love the Beatles...epecially early Beatles. Its too bad that only two of them are left.

The point is this, I want happiness. I don't want to keep on with drugs. Paul told me once, 'You made fun of me for taking drugs, but you will regret it in the end.' Explain to me what Christianity can do for me. Is it phoney? Can He love me? I want out of hell."

Me, me, me - Lennon was a true egoist...so Christianity was never right for him anyway.
