A Calvinist is one who follows Calvin. I subscribe to God's Word in which it is quite clear that the whole of mankind is deserving of Hell through Adam's disobedience which brought the blight of sin into the world. It is not that God is sending people to hell. They are rushing on the road to hell through their rebellion against God. God would be totally just and righteous if He left the whole of mankind to fall into hell.
But God, in His mercy, has decided to pluck a few out of the horde and save them. At the same time, He presents the Gospel to all mankind and pleads with them to believe it. He knows who is going to believe the Gospel as presented to them, and He elects them to receive salvation.
That is what my Bible tells me. Therefore, I follow what the Bible says and agree with Calvin in the areas where he agrees with the Bible.
