John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

This English translation makes the "Word" the Same as "the God" whom he is said to be with. Leading to the need to create another meaning for the term Theos. Other English words like "essence" and "being" are required to explain away John's very simple statement.

Why wouldn't John use this line of text to say something like:
In the beginning was the Word, the second person of God, He was with The Father, and he was sharing the divine essence as part of the same consubstantial triunity as the Father.

My question is: Who is the God that the Word is said to be with? (This question won't be answered!)
