Joel Osteen

i think joel osteen would fall under the 'name it and claim it' type of pastor. i have listened to him several times, and he is a good speaker, but if you really pay attention he is speaking against scripture by teaching that you are entitled to wealth, health, etc.

well if you see him on tv you will hear him talking about wealth, being a better you loveing yourself but never talking about sin, going to hell behind sin, repent. he was on larry king live one day and it was scary because larry king live asked him why dont you ever preach on sin and salvation and he really coud not give anything.

My dad liked him. I think he has his purpose. Everyone's needs are different, Joel is good at just encouraging Christians who are down in life. I like listening to him sometimes.

ya, that's nearly ALL his purpose seems to be...

He has no other type of message or teaching information; no depth at all - just 'hang in there, you're payday will come in someday'

Old or young Joel is just anothe New Age guy preaching the same New Age message with a little of Jesus thrown into the mix. The man knows nothing about the true word of God. He is like Normam Vicent Peele and Robert Schuller etc..

Joel Osteen isn't my "Brother".

He denies Jesus as the only way to Salvation and right relationship with God, and he preaches a doctrine of a false confession principle which is essentially witchcraft/sorcery.

What do your words have to do with the verse I quoted? Do you believe we should not encourage one another?

You can call him whatever you wish but he is saved and will be in heaven with you someday like it or not.

He openly questions whether or not Jesus is the "only way".

By definition, that is heresy of the worst sort.

Believing that Jesus Christ is the Only Begotten Son of God and the ONLY way to salvation IS the Gospel. Jesus said that he who comes up by any other way is a thief and a robber.

Jesus is the only way. There is no question about that.

Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6

At 2:20-2:40, Osteen making false promises to people about God's plan for their lives.

God NEVER promised you "Marked moment of blessing" of nearly any sort for any given place in your life. in fact, most of the believers in the Bible spent thier lives in poverty and oppression. Most of the prophets and apostles spent their lives being beaten and imprisoned and killed for preaching the Gospel.

Jesus even said, "In this world you SHALL have tribulation..."

In 3:20-3:50, Osteen basicly says he doesn't think its a good idea to rebuke sin, and "everyone already knows what they do wrong."

No they don't. That's why the OT law was written, and its whey God even had a sacrifice for "sins of ignorance". Both the old and new Testament teach that we are to rebuke our neighbor, and moreover, not doing so is the true hatred.

Leviticus 19:17
Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.

in 6:15, the interviewer refers to this as "Self Help", and clearly Osteen's message is one of "Self Help" via PMA(Positive Mental Attitude/confession).

The Bible teaches exactly the opposite. The Bible teaches that you cannot help yourself, and that all your righteousnesses are as filthy rags. That is, the best you can possiby do is sin...

The Bible teaches to DENY YOURSELF and take up the Cross, etc.


Thus the "Jesus" Osteen is preaching is not the Jesus of the Bible.

I don't know why these videos aren't working. the first is from earlier in this thread.

The second is found by searching for keywords, "Joel Osteen Exposed" on yahoo.

In the above video, even after Osteen first admits that the caller is right, he then back peddles into his "i don't know, not my place to say" stance.

On the one hand, he admits the caller is right, but on the other hand, he will not actually preach that nor take that stance in the interview, nor write it in his books.

Well, which is it? Make up your mind.

If a person believes something other than "Jesus Christ and Him Crucified", that person is going to hell.

I do not have to "judge the person's heart" to know that, because the Bible already tells us that.


Anyone can be saved if they REPENT AND BELIEVE THE GOSPEL.

But until they do so, they are not saved. It isn't a matter of "judging" someone, it is a matter of what the Bible says. No atheist is going to heaven. no muslim is going to heaven. No buddhist, or voodoo, or shintoist, or taoist, etc, none of them are saved UNLESS AND UNTIL they Repent and believe the Gospel. And if they DO believe the Gospel, then by definition they must no longer believe the false thing they used to believe.
