Joel Osteen opens up about homosexuality

Joel Osteen tackles the question of whether gay marriage is ‘against the rules’ – Glenn Beck

In an interview, Joel Osteen is confronted with a question regarding his view on homosexuality.

Please, no arguments on whether or not homosexuality is right or not. Rather, do you think he handled the question properly? Was his response straight forward enough for people to understand his standpoint?

I am as conservative as it gets. I don't know about the article because he used parts of sentance as aevidenced by the ... !

I have listened to Mr Beck enough to realize I put little to no weight in anything that comes out of his mouth or off his keyboard.

As for Rev Osteen, don't know him, never read one of his books, never listened to a sermon. But he is a frequent target. And that is not necessarily an indication of him being wrong or right.

Can you imagine what Mr Beck would have said about Paul cUsing riots and being run out of every town he went into. Rumor has it, he was so unliked that one town stoned him.

Mr. Beck would have a heyday.

I know many believers hesitate to comment on "same sex marriage" (sodomy). unfortunately for me I am led the opposite way. I have to speak out against it in as loving a way as possible. I say unfortunately because I really do not want to... yet the Lord has me addressing the topic in a couple of the books I have released, one of which is "Why America Is Being Judged." Of course abominations are right in there. The land is about to spew out the inhabitants just as it did to the OT pagan nations. Besides the abomination of Sodomy, there is the occult, the oppression of the poor, the abortion holocaust, the hatred and persecution of Christians, etc...
I do not hate sodomites... I have compassion for them. We are all tempted in many ways. O for the grace of God go I.
I know I will be pounded for this, but I told the lord early on, 45 years ago that I would go where he said and not hesitate to speak His word. I do not know if this will translate into prison or death for me. But you realize that to overcome you much not love your life unto death. So be it, praise His name.

We don't defend adultery, or murder or homosexuality but we don't make it our focus. Our focus is on the people and we allow the Holy Spirit the job of convicting of sin.

In our culture, how do you define “marriage”? If two teenagers elope across the state line to get “married” just so they can have sex, is that a marriage? What about two people tying the knot before a JP because the woman is already pregnant? What about two divorcees getting hitched? Does the state have to issue a legal marriage license before God recognizes a marriage as a marriage (some states issue licenses to gay couples)? What about two people living together without benefit of a license, sharing the same bank account, surname, and considering themselves husband and wife—are they “married”? What constitutes a “God-joined” marriage as opposed to one that is not? A license? A church wedding? The preacher declaring them “husband and wife”? What?

It can be complicated.

Beck claims to be Mormon but I suspect he has actually gotten saved along the way.... many mormons remain mormons once saved they just stop reading the BoM and D&C and become nominal Christians.
I'm former Mormon, its not difficult if you don't mention anything about J.Smith. If your in Utah and your entire family is Mormon its a huge deal, leaving Mormonism and it would effect his show, his standing in the community etc etc

Until you actually start to study the scriptures it all seems quite normal and Christian. It not until you actually study its roots and study cults that you realize your in one.

Brigham Young who took over after J.S. Said there are people on the moon who wear outfits like the pilgrims...??? But they don't mention that either.

J.S. was proven to be a fraud but you just can't prove something to people who don't want to hear it...

Hmmm. I have wondered if Beck still believes that Jesus and Lucifer are "brothers." Isn't that a central Mormon doctrine? If so, then he has little business casting stones at Osteen.

After watching the video clip I'm not sure as to what his standpoint is. It seems to be the way in the church now, muddy the waters a little and hope the issue goes away.

I don't follow Joel or any man but what would make you think a cessationist who has come out against speaking in tongues (SBC) would be a better leader into the 21st century.
I saw Joel on Larry King a few years ago and his opinion on homosexuality was that it was never God's design and it was not God's perfect will but that he did not deny them fellowship within the church. I don't believe they are performing LGBT weddings.
I believe this is what most churches agree with. If we try to keep sinner's out of the church... well... nuff' said.

Jimmy Swaggart was a wonderful anointed teacher, preacher and evangelist... he knows about sin too. I recall all those sermons on sexual sin and then we realized it was himself he was preaching to... what a mess his legacy has been the scandal and corruption of a man willing to strut across a stage waving a bible every night and then to go to hookers a few hours later. Joel may not be the fire and brimstone preacher like swagger but at least he has managed to not leave a trail of scandals....

God help us...

I personally think that he was pretty muddy with his standpoint. He didn't clear up his support for either side, he kind of wormed away from it, although he did say that "it [gay marriage] would be..." wrong.

I like his point though... When he talked about it not being central to his core message. In all reality, should homosexuality ever be central to any of our messages? I would argue no. The central message always was the Kingdom of God. When Christ was here on earth, it was all about the Kingdom of God and bringing others into it. How to be respectful citizens in this Kingdom.

I liked his point, and I think he did an all right job getting to the underlying point.

To invite sin into the church and say, "hey be like us" is not my idea of how the body of Christ is suppose to work.

We have to separate ourselves from them the homosexuals and gays that don't practice their leanings are okay with me. They can't help it, they are just plain attracted to the same sex or at least have fears that keep them from being heterosexual.

Sit next to me a non practicing heterosexual, but do not accept sin into the church or you have holes in your bible.

I seriously think Joel didn't want to make any enemies and kept his distance by not answering. He knew what the wrong (yet right answer) answer has done to other sports and Hollywood movie stars. Some have even faced ridicule on facebook and Joel didn't want to take that chance.

No one said I didn't forgive them but to think Joel is doing more damage then Jimmy Swaggart is just wrong. J.S. has repented more then once. I don't judge him but I'm no fool either. He was one of the ones who taught me not to be a follower of men. I am grateful.

Swaggart had a gift few will ever possess. He was only one of many scandals in the 80's and the move within the Christian churches, especially the AoG began to turn cold. Reminds me of someone who sold their birthright for a bowl of stew....

I respect that Joel isn't being a hypocrite and keeps the focus on the gospel. Again, he isn't someone I follow... I don't watch any of them except J.Prince or J.Meyers once in awhile. I definitely don't send my money to them, they are all far richer than I.

There are these things called an X chromosomes Y chromosomes. A simple reach down below will help determine which one you have. It is not rocket science, but it is biology and physiology. It is no more complicated than that. Nature tells us what we are. When they pull us out of our moms, the doctor states authoritatively "It is a boy" or "It is a girl."
The rest is all in our heads. We can talk ourselves into being attracted to anything. Another man, a cow, a fence post. None of that is natural. I am sorry if that offends, but truth often does.

I understand that quoting this scripture will eventually be tagged as hate speech and Christians will be subject to arrest and prison. What are we to do? I do not quote these verses out of hate or the desire to harm anyone.
The word says what it says. If someone insists that I choose between God or the current world system of perversion, I will choose God. Let them do what they may.
