Unfortunatly.... Joel comes emptyhanded.

He is a distraction.

I like to listen to him... his voice is pleasing. But he offers nothing.

Where is the celebration of The Eucharistic prayers, where is the breaking of the loaves? Where is Christ in what he preaches? Where is the central acts of which Christianity has used from the beginning? Are we just to accept the changes and not question them?

I wish him well, but I only see him as distracting us.

Joel Scott Hayley Osteen (born March 5, 1963) is an American best-selling author and the senior pastor of Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas. His Christian ministry reaches over 7 million broadcast media viewers weekly in the United States and untold millions more in over 100 nations around the world.

Osteen says that he chooses to focus on the goodness of God rather than sin. In answer to questions raised over why he does not include many Bible verses in his books, he says that he sees himself as more of a life coach. Osteen explains that he tries to teach Biblical principles in a simple way, emphasizing the power of love and a positive attitude.

Osteen has received much criticism from many in the Evangelical community. After a 2005 appearance on Larry King Live, he was accused of not clearly affirming that Jesus Christ is the only way a person can reach Heaven. He stated repeatedly that only God knows a person's heart, but that as a believer in the Christian faith he believes in an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. In late 2006, Osteen again appeared on Larry King Live and clarified his prior statement, saying he does in fact believe a personal relationship with Christ is the only way to Heaven.

On the December 23, 2007 edition of Fox News Sunday, host Chris Wallace brought up criticisms of Osteen's lack of Scripture reference in his sermons, as well as his hesitancy to discuss sin as an integral part of life. Osteen responded: "And I am ultimately trying to do that, but I'm trying to teach people how to live their everyday lives, and so I do focus on it, probably not as much as some people would like." His sermons and writings are sometimes reproached for their use of the concept of the prosperity gospel, a belief that wealth and power are rewards for pious Christians.

Osteen has also received criticism for his lack of formal theological training. Osteen studied at Oral Roberts University for two years, but did not study theology or religion in college, and has never attended a theological seminary.

I like Joel Osteen. He gets me so amped. He gets me pumped up enough to get up and DO SOMETHING. He is a real blessing.

My Grandpa said that he doesn't feel that Joel preaches about sin and judgement enough. So? We have Fred Phelps for that.

Do give examples. I sometimes listen to him. I don't want to listen to a heretic.

In proper context remember all protestants are heretics according to Rome...
that being said my 16 year old and I listened to a sermon and listed out 6 times where his preaching clearly contradicted scriptural teaching...I choose to keep my distance his knowledge of scripture is considerably less than my 16 year old and he only speaks to things itchy ears desire to hear...
