Joe Pass.....unbelievable

Joe Pass is the man. I only wish he were still around. That would be one guy I'd LOVE to have the opportunity to chat with and watch him play.

I've heard a couple Joe Pass albums and he's definitely a masterful guitar player; his stuff is a little too straight-ahead for my tastes though, at least where I am right now... At this point I'm more into John Abercrombie, Terje Rypdal, and experimenters like Keith Rowe and Derek Bailey.

I agree that Joe is masterful at the craft probably one of the greatest jazz guitarists.Have his book/cd Joe Pass Guitar Style,His playing is pretty breathtaking.

One of the (many) awesome things about JP was he played from his heart, not his head. So many players come out of college with lots of theory, but they sound sterile.

Joe Pass was a great guitar player, but sadly passed away I believe at 62 years of age only.
He's been gone a while now.
He most likely would have been far more famous if he used digital sound with his guitar such as some reverb and delay , he also needed to equalize his amps which he never really did.
Joe mainly was a guitarist....otherwise...he just wanted to play and wasn't worried about sound as much. Most times he used a small amp and sat in a chain before a crowd of people. He loved people a lot and loved to joke around...he was a little shy....but he will always be the guitarist musician.
All he wanted to do was play guitar !!
