  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

By insisting that suffering is always retributive, the three rhetoricians were limiting God’s sovereign ability to use suffering for other purposes. As a result, they cruelly indicted innocent Job.
How then did Job speak “what is right”? Had he not repeatedly and proudly challenged God, accusing Him of injustice and unwarranted silence? Yes, but he had now repented of his proud accusations and therefore he was accepted by God. Also, he never cursed God, as Satan had predicted. Though Job continued to contend with God, he never renounced Him. .

Job did sin because of his suffering but he did not suffer because of his sin.

I would be happy to share a more plausible and true to the actual text interpretation with you, but I refuse to do so with those who think the above scenario is legitimate. It they do, then there is no sense in trying to reason it out scripturally.

I hope you will share that either here or somewhere more receptive soon brother. :)

The 3 came from a very legalistic stance. Eliphaz had a shamebased council, Bildad's was incorrect theology, Zophar's was based on assumptions, while the 4rth was correct in what he said but was angry at everyone, yet he knew that God isn't always silent. Legalism is well outlined by the first 3 tho.

Do you believe Job went through what he did because of his fear?

Job 3:25 What I feared has come upon me; what I dreaded has happened to me.

I have heard some teach this and wanted to ask everyone their beliefs.

Sorry, misread, I thought the thread was about JOB trials, like a gripe thread about the computers don't work, the boss doesn't understand and some unsuspecting co-worker stole your soda out of the fridge in the break room.

Never mind. Please continue.

^_^

We used to have a "Name one thing you like and one you dislike most about your job" thread. Maybe it's time for you to start another of those.

For me, the Book of Job has two conversations (events) going on, one, from Heaven's perspective (God and satan) and from man's perspective (Job, friends and wife).

God declared Job righteous, end of story.

Job foretold the coming of the Messiah, how he (man) needed an advocate in heaven (God) to plead his case.

It's a wonderful Book.

It is God who first brings up the subject of Job:

Then the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil."

Why?

Because:

There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil."

God is the one who puts the target on Job’s back

Is it possible that Job suffered because he was righteous?

Jesus said this:

Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

I believe Job went through that trail solely to glorify God before the angels and men. God basically decided to shut Satan's mouth and Job was the servant God used to do so.

and there's another darn good possibility! a given on glory!
