Job 10:12
"You have granted me life and favor, and your providence has preserved my life (spirit)."
So Why has the Lord granted Job life and favor and preserved his soul? Because Job is God's child. What father would not freely give his sons/daughters anything if they ask? "He who did not spare his own son how can he not freely give us all things through Christ Jesus our lord." God is a good father, if we thought our earthly fathers were good, God is 100X better. God Has has blessed Job with life and favor and preserved his spirit, because Job was in the family of God. Job kept all the law and it was accounted to him as righteousness. "You have conferred prosperity and happiness upon him in the work of his hands." God chose and approved of Job before he was born because God knew that Job had a right heart towards him. But, Job was solely basing his righteousness on what he did and not the Lord, thus giving him a haughty attitude towards the things he did for the Lord. I think the Lord taught him 2 things. #1. All these material things come from me, not you, nor anything that you do. I give them to you because I see you have a right heart towards me (God knew this before Job was formed in his mothers womb) not because of anything that you did for me.
Job was basing his goodness on his works, therefore depending on his works and not God. Your works don't make you righteous, God does. "For my righteousness is as filthy rags unto you." Look at what God said to Job "Will you condemn me, that you may APPEAR righteous and justified?" It was as if Job was saying, "Well Lord, I did this, and that, and this again for you, so now bless me, I am righteous!" But how can you be righteous if your born in sin? I think the enemy was testing Job to see if he was doing the right things for the right reasons (Because you love God and you know that either in life or death you belong to him. And that he is watching over you even in hard times) or are you doing it to be blessed? (Which isn't bad, but is that your main agenda? To get from God? Which isn't bad, but your love for him comes first) But God knew that he would win over the enemy because he knew Job's heart and thats why he chose him and approved of him and blessed him with life and favor. God knew Job wanted to serve him, "out of the heart flows the issues of life." So the enemy losed before he even started. Job need to understand to not let outside side things be his source. "seek the kingdom of God first and all these things shall be added unto you." What God is saying is, "I will give you all the outside things, but first seek me thats all I'm asking."
Job was so concentrated on doing these things to be righteous but the Lord wanted a personal relationship with him and not his works. Job was working to impress God. Job was saying, "Well, God here I am, I've done this, that, and this again, and that again, and I made sure this was right, and that was good, now love me, and bless me, and give me what you have." And God was saying, "No son, I don't want those works of yours, I want a relationship with you. I want to love you apart from the things you do. I want to be your father. Thats why all those things were taken away from you to let you see that there is nothing you can do, or have that will impress me. You don't have to gain my love by your works it is already there. I own everything, I gave you everything, not because of your works, but because I loved you and approved of you before you could do anything right or wrong because I saw your heart. Stop putting trust in your works and start putting your trust in me son."
Job finally had a revelation of God's love at the end. Job says, "I had heard of you [only] by the hearing of the ear, but now my eyes see you." Job now realized that God is his source and not his works. The relationship between Job and the God was like if You came home and saw your son and you asked him, "how are you doing today son?" and your son responds, "well father I've done this for you and that for you today, and I didn't do that. But I have to do more things for you. See ya later!!" And then darts out of the door. Your thinking in your mind, "Wow, I have a great son, he obeys me greatly, but what I really wanted was a deep conversation about the things going in his life, how was he's feeling, how was he's doing, how was he coping with life, how were his friends, does he have friends ect." God wants relationship not works. It doesn't matter if you've done a million and 1 good things in one day, it is nice but it won't gain you anything. God is your provider not your works. And once you get a revelation of God's ever lasting love you will WANT to do good things and for the right reasons. Just because you know just how much your loved by God you will want to bless others freely and as much as possible. God wants you to do the right things for the right reason not to gain anything but because you love him and his love will always be with you forever.
