what can you make for a buck?

Somrthing to keep in mind is I'm vegan, so a lot of my food is pretty cheap anyway. One example is I just got 2-2LB bags of brown rice for $1.39 each. That can be used for a lot of meals. The trick is to cook from scratch, including bread, use lots of yummy spices, and try and grow veggies yourself. I've discovered I'm pretty good with spices so that makes it really easy.

This is just a very vague example, if you want some specific ideas let me know. I feel like I've been a student for forever so I have had to learn to eat healthy cheaply.

Also I have tons of links that give cheap, and I mean cheap, heathy food ideas. All either vegan or vegetarian.

There is also a really great website that I seem to have lost where the author was doing an experiment to make each meal organic and healthy for less than a dollar per meal. She actually went way under lots of times. Sorry I can't find it, I'll keep looking though.

Making hummus is cheap. Also making a big pot of chili and freezing portions. Per serving it's pretty cheap. I usually eat porridge for breakfast which is whole grain and less than a quarter per serving. Stir frys. Dal. I think I probably eat a lot more asian food than anything.

My biggest tips are: cook from scratch, used dried beans, check out the bulk grain bins at the grocery store, see if you have a co-op and CSA in your area. To find a CSA google CSA and the name of your city, that's what I did. It turns out my city has no such thing. Also farmer's markets.

I'm sure you are probably doing most of this already, but more advice can't hurt.
