  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What do you think of Job 7:9?

Sheol - means the grave

When one goes to the grave they no more have use of their mortal life
Their mortal body is non-existent - vanishes

7Remember that my life is but a breath.
My eyes will never again see happiness.
8The eye that beholds me will no longer see me.
You will look for me, but I will be no more.
9As a cloud vanishes and is gone,
so he who goes down to Sheol will never rise up. (as mortal)
10He will never return to his house; (mortal body)
his place will remember him no more. (mortal body)

I would say this is right. He means our lives as we know them will be over. And, of course, we need to not be concerned only or mainly about what becomes of us ourselves; but God wants us to care about others as ourselves . . . and to first be about pleasing Him.

Something I think of is that God has predestined us to be conformed to the image of Jesus > Romans 8:29. So, if we just go into the grave, never to be alive again, we can't be rising conformed to the image of Jesus.

So, God's commitment to have children like His Son effects what Job 7:9 means.

What do you think of Job 7:9?

Job 7:9 As the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more.

It's not true.

Joh_5:29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

What do you think of Job 7:9?

This is a part of a long series of things that Job was saying. Here is what he said also in chapter 14 that should go along with this.

Job 14:12 So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.
Job 14:13 O that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me!
Job 14:14 If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.
Job 14:15 Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee: thou wilt have a desire to the work of thine hands.

Now these are some power pact verses. Take it verse by verse. In verse 12 he says that man lieth down(dies) and does not rise again, until the heavens be no more. When will this time be? Peter has the answer in 2 Peter 3. Observe this verse.

2Pe 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

So of the lord is the time when the heavens will be no more then according to Job, this is when men will be raised out of their sleep. Well when you look at verse 13 you have this you can reference as well.

Dan 12:1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
Dan 12:2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

Verse 14 speak of a change that will come. Well Paul tells us about that.

1Co 15:51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
1Co 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
1Co 15:53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

Then in verse 14 he says that he will hear the call from God and he will answer. Well John the apostle and Paul both talks about this too.

Joh 5:28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
Joh 5:29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

1Th 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

Job is basically saying that when you die, you remain in the grave until the resurrection. Jon 7:9, 10 is just talking about the dead in relation to this present earth just as Solomon talks about in Ecc 9:5.
