  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have no idea as to her faith, or lack thereof, and her lyrics are obscure enough that it would be impossible to "figure it out." But she's brilliant, regardless. I've been saying since I first heard her that she's the best artist making music today.

I'm glad to see that you're enjoying Joanna. :) I doubt that she is a christian based on her lyrics (which are phenomenal). For example, take this line from my favorite tune of hers:

Joanna Newsom said:
All day long we talk about mercy
Lead me to water Lord, I sure am thirsty.
Down in a ditch where I nearly served you
Up in the clouds where he almost heard you.

Have you heard anything by the band she plays keyboards in? I'm hoping she has a new album before too long. :)

^The band is called The Pleased. It's her boyfriend's band.

There are a few new songs floating around and a couple covers of Hendrix that I have ("Angel," and "Little Wing"). The names of the new songs, as far as we can tell, are "Cosmia," "Sawdust & Diamonds," "Only a Skin," and "Be a Woman." She has played "Cosmia" and "S&D" a few times live, and the latter two fewer times.

And if you can't tell, I'm a huge Joanna fan.
