Sat in on a facinating talk at university today by Dr. Joan Roughgarden. (S)he's a biologist at Stanford, and -- get this anti-evolutionists -- she critiqued Darwin's theory of sexual selection. She has her own very interesting theory of social selection, which essentially argues that animal 'gender' characteristics are a result of just that -- selection for adaptive social behaviours rather than for particular sexual characteristics like the male-famale dichotomy. She did a great job presenting her case, though not everyone in the audience seemed convinced (her theory doesn't seem to stick for insects, for example).
Turns out Dr. Roughgarden is Christian, also, and has recently written a book, Evolution and Christian Faith: Reflections of an Evolutionary Biologist. Think I might check it out for myself. Anyone here read it before?
