  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

 Are they going to try to wean you off of them after you're healed??? That's not cool!

Yes, I'm sure I will be supported in coming off of the drugs. It's just my body becoming dependent on them. Well, put it this way, I will have support coming off the drugs whether my doctors know it already or not!

Well they will show withdrawals but its something that you can overcome. Well we weren't we put up alarms so they would go off if my mum had to take meds :p haha we got really crazy over them :p

I have lots of alarms set on my phone for when I take my meds. I figured that I couldn't have too many ways of remembering what meds to take when! ^_^

Lol right...well yeah you'll need it!!! I mean that's serious stuff. Why did it take so long for them to figure it out?

It is serious... I am on four different painkillers, two of which are opiate-based. It's not gonna be fun coming off them but I do know that just stopping without weaning myself off of them is really dangerous. I just need to know how to do it properly. I'll probably need someone to scream at every now and then too! :D

I think it's a mix of reasons why it took such a long time for someone to work out what was wrong with my knee and then to fix it. The biggest issue I faced was getting a doctor to believe that there actually was a problem and that I wasn't just depressed. I really don't see why they would have thought that recurrent dislocations were a mental illness but there ya go! One surgeon was just really arrogant and I didn't fit in with his research at the time, so he didn't want to help. Another surgeon knew what was wrong but didn't have the necessary skills to help me. Whilst the surgery I had wasn't that unusual or complicated, what made it harder is that I have joint hypermobility meaning that my ligaments, tendons etc. are much stretchier than most people's. Reconstructing one of my knee's ligaments using a tendon from my hamstring isn't the easiest considering the joint hypermobility but it is not impossible. There is the possibility I may need a second surgery but that is even more painful again and has a really long recovery time. My surgeon and I are hopeful that the ligament reconstruction is sufficient to keep my kneecap in place. Only time will tell if my pain is as a result of the recurrent dislocations or some sort of chronic pain condition.....

LOL ^_^

For alarms to wake me up, they have to be really annoying noises because I just sleep through music/radio. I also have to leave it well out of my reach, which forces me to get out of bed to turn it off. I am terrible in the mornings! :D

 That's nuts!!!!!! And you can scream at me any time ^_^ I can take it ^_^ Wow...just wow...I do not envy you...and I've never heard of joint hypermobility...does that make you more flexible?

LOL ^_^

Haha! ^_^

I can become very nocturnal if I am not careful! :D

^_^ I AM nocturnal period. Tried going to bed at 11 for the first year I was married, so I could actually go to bed with hubby who is NOT nocturnal. Eventually we both decided it was too hard and I started going to bed much later and he went to bed earlier and we're happy that way ^_^ It is not unusual for me to stay up until 3-4am and if I wasn't married, and had no life, I'd stay up later. :D

It is nuts and SO annoying. Thanks for saying I can scream at you any time. I know that I need the pain meds right now, so I have no issue with taking them. I am kinda worried about coming off of them tho. I'll have to worry about that when it's time to come off them. I don't have the energy to worry about that now! :D

My husband used to be quite nocturnal but not so now. I would be but things like work get in the way of being fully nocturnal. I have become much more nocturnal again whilst not working, as I am not doing as much, and have just given up on always going to bed with my hubby. I am needing much more sleep at the moment but that's not really a surprise....

Well um yeah no kidding lol.

My job, I have been blessed...I don't have to go in until 3pm and I work until 9pm or later and sometimes overnight. The mother of the kids I work with is also nocturnal, so we kind of have that understanding there LOL and then when this job ends in 5-6 weeks, I'm going to take a break and the next job I am going to get will also be after school. I once told myself when I was a kid that I was never going to be that stressed out, super tired, 9-5 person that fit the mould. I don't know how, but so far, it's worked out pretty well. The only job I had where I couldn't come in later than 9 was a job where I had to be somewhere to pick kids up at 7am  After 10 months of that job I was so tired despite going to bed at 9pm...I gave up and quit and went to doing something more realistic...working in a Chiropractor's office and most of the time I was able to come in at 1pm there and stay until 9pm.

Wow! I spent a long time working in one school where lessons started at 8:30am, which required me to be in by 7:30am. Working in education does have the benefit of long vacations, although you do have to work during them, but has the drawback of really long hours. Since being out of work, due to my health, I have decided that I am going to do something else, and definitely something with friendlier hours!
