This from another thread:

He couldn't take it anymore and said to the father, "Your children are out of control. Why don't you do something?"

"Yes" the father replied, "I suppose I should. But you see we have just come from the hospital.
Their mother died this morning, and they don't know how to handle it, and nor do I."......
(OUCH!)

So often, our judgment calls are based on outward appearances. We make them on our limited experience.
God on the other hand looks at the person's heart.

John 7;24 says this "Stop judging by mere appearances, and make a right judgment."

And Isaiah 11;3 has this to say about Christ, "He will not judge by the way things look. He will not judge by what people say."

How we long for fair treatment from others, but do we give it?
Yes, there's a poster here called Annie :)
That kiddo is Strange ;) in soo many (unaccepted) ways:
1. Why won't she word things, like the rest of us English- speakers.
2. Why does she space thoughts differently, & use more colors. & worse,
3. Why does she refuse to regard herself a 'sinner like us'; and instead regard herself as God's "friend".
blasphemy
4. Why does she think highly? of herself, love & like
herself as much as she does. That should change, right?
5. Why does she refuse falling in-step with the rest of the gang:
she refuses to age?, like we have choices... in this matter.
blasphemy
6. Why, when we know it's foolishness, does she continue thinking
we have scarcely scratched the surface... in many developmental areas, incldg. hers.
blasphemy
What is wrong with this kiddo? - PRAISE God for my Testimonies of God's  LOVE, & my Sweeties  love & my own  love. :amen:

1. Yes and to be able to honor the gift of this body and earth by what we eat of it and how we treat life here.

2. Like a reflection in a pool of water and to learn to become more clear and fluid in our minds under His tutelage.

3. The pearl of great price, the soul. for which the Lord gave His life to redeem.

4. Communing with Him in trust directly and through all He has created in intimacy.

5. Those He has placed in our care and through whom we may learn from on our Journey to union.

6. Finding a path with 'heart' and there to walk and witness even breathlessly at the wonders of our own creation and the creator.

Isaiah 35

The Road of Holiness

The desert will rejoice,
and flowers will bloom in the wastelands.
2 The desert will sing and shout for joy;
it will be as beautiful as the Lebanon Mountains
and as fertile as the fields of Carmel and Sharon.
Everyone will see the Lord's splendor,
see his greatness and power.

In the desert marks my lenten journey of discipline. It seems fairly desolate and becoming more so as I walk further into the roaming sand hills with the Lord in ascetic discipline. I do not really look back and see my footprints as the wind busily erases them with sand and wind. I only see the rising and setting sun...sometimes filtered through buffeting sand crystals beautifully. Here I walk and wait, listen and witness. Making my cries to the lord of all who will renew the land in splendor so that the barren days and ceaseless rhythm of hot and cold will be replaced with springs and flowers, growing even in the rocks and crags. The Lenten journey of waiting and trust. Blessed are those who wait upon the Lord.

Amen

The 40 days, which Jesus fasted, & then answered satan, which signifies Lent, is practiced by some. But
it is not something I was raised with, nor is that present in the 3 religions of past 60yrs. of my life.
The longest I fasted thus far was 10+days; and not for Lent.

May you find your experience refreshing  for you Mark,
and help you achieve your goals, & become  who you want to be in Christ  our Joyfulness...

well for me Lent is a time to get closer to Jesus by meditating on his sacrifices and passion. Whether I sleep on a bed of nails or give up Ice Cream I have to remind myself those are all just a means to an end. There is nothing special in my actions and they are empty if I do not grow in wisdom and love :)

Hi Mark,
Right, and why I haven't done Lent. Because becoming closer to Christ, as the "friend" He calls us to live as is for me a continuous daily  LOVE-affair... Makes good sense?
and
also why in our family we don't do other holidays
separately. Because each day would be passionately well-lived, as Valentines  day, & Daddy's day, & Mommy's day, & especially ThanksLiving... day, & all the others. - Most important Christ:angel:mas, & Easter  I posted about God's Love being our linchpin for us here #758

What do you think?

I have thought along those lines for a long time. I remember coming back from a retreat and talking with a brother. I had written up about 20 pages on this. He said the word grace in the Bible could be replaced by love and it would make sense. Sometimes in my discipline I become almost military like, still training through a cold and pushing myself with my mind day after day. In such a momentum I can become a bit stiff, stoic and yet there are things that happen around me that my heart always ends up softening to. So by that I know my path is still good. Not that I meditate and pray everyday or anything else that I do. It is most eloquently spoken of in 1Corinthians 13...

1 If I speak in the tongues[a] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

If I might 'add',
that we should not forget,
the blessed gift, of the Holy Spirit
That 'piece' of our Lord
with which, we have all been blessed [?]

It is, our interpreter and our conscience
our strength, under duress and, our personal moderator

He will not leave us to flounder

Hi Mark,
This is good! - as a teenybopper, I started using 1 Corinthians 13 as a Guide in my love-practices, &
wrote a reprintable page (i'm Visual ;)) to track my progress...

On these, I vascillate a bit. - And
re verse 11 (especially because God/Jesus said: Wanna go to Heaven? Become like this ->LITTLE  child).
so
that 'when I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child.' - to stop :( that is a huge problem for me, & frankly I'm not buying it.
nu :) uh!
I'm gonna keep right on with what God said: "BE like this -> LITTLE  child". :amen:

I don't think Paul was saying extinguish the 'little' one in us and that we are, in the big picture with God. We can be greatly wise and still and ever be a child of God. I'm all grown up and my Mother sometimes sees me as her child yet grown up. So I think it is with God. We learn, grow, wonder, doubt, rise, fall, and in His eyes we are His little ones and He will always be our Father.
