  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Matt 17:4 And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Lord, it is
good for us to be here; if You are willing, I will make three
tents here, one for You and one for Moses and one for Elijah.
(8) And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one except
Jesus Himself alone.

In Matthew 17:1-8 we have a clear revelation of the fact that
with the coming of Jesus both Moses and Elijah were over.
Moses and Elijah represent the entire Old Testament, with
Moses representing the law and Elijah representing the
prophets. Therefore, the fact that Moses and Elijah were over
indicates that the entire Old Testament, consisting of the Law
and the Prophets, was over.

Peter took the lead to propose to the Lord that he build three
tabernacles, one for Moses, one for Elijah, and one for the
Lord Jesus (v. 4). "While he was still speaking, behold, a
bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the
cloud, saying, This is My beloved Son, in whom I delight; hear
Him!" (v. 5). When the disciples heard this, they fell on
their face. When they lifted up their eyes, "they saw no one
except Jesus Himself alone" (v. 8).
Moses and Elijah had
disappeared, and only Jesus remained. Peter had proposed to
keep Moses and Elijah, that is, the law and the prophets, with
Christ, but God took Moses and Elijah away, leaving "no one
except Jesus Himself alone."

No one except Jesus Himself alone
should remain in the New Testament. He is today's Moses,
imparting the law of life into His believers, and also today's
Elijah, speaking for God and speaking forth God within His
believers.

Keeping things in perspective. What does Jesus say?

Philippians 1:9-11

So this is my prayer: that your love will flourish and that you will not only love much but well. Learn to love appropriately. You need to use your head and test your feelings so that your love is sincere and intelligent, not sentimental gush. Live a lover's life, circumspect and exemplary, a life Jesus will be proud of: bountiful in fruits from the soul, making Jesus Christ attractive to all, getting everyone involved in the glory and praise of God.

Galatians 5:22-23

But what happens when we live God's way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard—things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely.

Colossians 1:5

Working in His Orchard

3-5Our prayers for you are always spilling over into thanksgivings. We can't quit thanking God our Father and Jesus our Messiah for you! We keep getting reports on your steady faith in Christ, our Jesus, and the love you continuously extend to all Christians. The lines of purpose in your lives never grow slack, tightly tied as they are to your future in heaven, kept taut by hope.
5-8The Message is as true among you today as when you first heard it. It doesn't diminish or weaken over time. It's the same all over the world. The Message bears fruit and gets larger and stronger, just as it has in you. From the very first day you heard and recognized the truth of what God is doing, you've been hungry for more. It's as vigorous in you now as when you learned it from our friend and close associate Epaphras. He is one reliable worker for Christ! I could always depend on him. He's the one who told us how thoroughly love had been worked into your lives by the Spirit.

James 2:21
21-24Wasn't our ancestor Abraham "made right with God by works" when he placed his son Isaac on the sacrificial altar? Isn't it obvious that faith and works are yoked partners, that faith expresses itself in works? That the works are "works of faith"? The full meaning of "believe" in the Scripture sentence, "Abraham believed God and was set right with God," includes his action. It's that mesh of believing and acting that got Abraham named "God's friend." Is it not evident that a person is made right with God not by a barren faith but by faith fruitful in works?

Jude 1:12

12-13These people are warts on your love feasts as you worship and eat together. They're giving you a black eye—carousing shamelessly, grabbing anything that isn't nailed down. They're—
Puffs of smoke pushed by gusts of wind;
late autumn trees stripped clean of leaf and fruit,
Doubly dead, pulled up by the roots;
wild ocean waves leaving nothing on the beach
but the foam of their shame;
Lost stars in outer space
on their way to the black hole.

Revelation 2:7

7"Are your ears awake? Listen. Listen to the Wind Words, the Spirit blowing through the churches. I'm about to call each conqueror to dinner. I'm spreading a banquet of Tree-of-Life fruit, a supper plucked from God's orchard."

Revelation 22

1-5 Then the Angel showed me Water-of-Life River, crystal bright. It flowed from the Throne of God and the Lamb, right down the middle of the street. The Tree of Life was planted on each side of the River, producing twelve kinds of fruit, a ripe fruit each month. The leaves of the Tree are for healing the nations. Never again will anything be cursed. The Throne of God and of the Lamb is at the center. His servants will offer God service—worshiping, they'll look on his face, their foreheads mirroring God. Never again will there be any night. No one will need lamplight or sunlight. The shining of God, the Master, is all the light anyone needs. And they will rule with him age after age after age.

Hold fast to the Spirit of truth and be filled.
Produce fruit abundant and enduring with dilegence and patience.
Honor Christ by upholding His name in you.
Joy in the highest sence is one of the ripe fruits of the Spirit.
Brotherly love is a condition of fruitfulness
Submit patiently to your appointed ambassadorship

That is my heart's cry, thank you for that. He is the Way, Truth and Light. And He says

"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."
According to the surrounding passages, the better we treat others the better they will treat us. That's the measure that is used and the measure recieved.
Remember staying close to God and duty means never losing dignity and privelege. God bless

John 15:9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.

An ancient story in Church history tells of the apostle John. He would constantly repeat the words, "Little children, love one another." And his disciples became weary of the phrase. Finally, in his old age, as John was being carried to their assembly, the disciples asked him, "Why do you always repeat these same words?" "Because friends," John replied, "it is the Lord's commandment -- and if only this one were fulfilled, it would be enough."
What is the greatest witness we Christians have to the world around us? I can tell you it's not only our words of wisdom, though they may be wonderful. It's not only our knowledge of the Scripture, though it may be vast. It's not only our material giving, though it may be great.

The greatest witness we have is the kind of love that the Bible defines above. Have we been patient and kind with others? Perhaps instead, we've been envious, boastful, proud, rude, self seeking or easily angered. I know I have. Have we kept a record of wrongs? Have we we delighted in evil? Uggh. When we express the true love of God, we always rejoice in the truth, protect, trust, hope and persevere.

Love never fails. Love can turn evil to good, darkness into light and enemies to friends. True love can totally transform the world around us.

the love that He gives surpasses all understanding, soothes the bruised emotions and mends broken hearts, bears all, rejects not, all encompassing, enveloping, overwhelming...is the love of Jesus.
it was not easy for Him to leave the heavenly dwelling and come on the the world of toil, but all the same He did because He could not bear to see the works of His hands perish. smile coz He loves you...He's more than down for you

Keeping things in perspective. What does Jesus say?

Jesus speaks the pure and perfect words of truth, which have already judged us...not to condemn us, rather so that we are able to see clearly the bitter poisons and wickedness of the many ways of the world, and then come forth from the world into the kingdom of heaven.

All of Jesus words are teachings which are to help us break away from doing things which are without the profit of love.

The many ways of the world enslave our hearts into catptivities which are bitter and dark places. The pure and perfect truth breaks the chains of the underworld which seeks to enslave our hearts and minds.

Come forth from the world into the kingdom of heaven, where only love and compassion exist. Embrace the truth of all things of this world.

"Take us the foxes, the little foxes that spoil the vines."
--Song of Solomon 2:15
A little thorn may cause much suffering. A little cloud may hide the sun. Little foxes spoil the vines; and little sins do mischief to the tender heart. These little sins burrow in the soul, and make it so full of that which is hateful to Christ, that He will hold no comfortable fellowship and communion with us. A great sin cannot destroy a Christian, but a little sin can make him miserable. Jesus will not walk with His people unless they drive out every known sin. He says, "If ye keep My commandments, ye shall abide in My love, even as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love." Some Christians very seldom enjoy their Saviour's presence. How is this? Surely it must be an affliction for a tender child to be separated from his father. Art thou a child of God, and yet satisfied to go on without seeing thy Father's face? What! thou the spouse of Christ, and yet content without His company! Surely, thou hast fallen into a sad state, for the chaste spouse of Christ mourns like a dove without her mate, when he has left her. Ask, then, the question, what has driven Christ from thee? He hides His face behind the wall of thy sins. That wall may be built up of little pebbles, as easily as of great stones. The sea is made of drops; the rocks are made of grains: and the sea which divides thee from Christ may be filled with the drops of thy little sins; and the rock which has well nigh wrecked thy barque, may have been made by the daily working of the coral insects of thy little sins. If thou wouldst live with Christ, and walk with Christ, and see Christ, and have fellowship with Christ, take heed of "the little foxes that spoil the vines, for our vines have tender grapes." Jesus invites you to go with Him and take them. He will surely, like Samson, take the foxes at once and easily. Go with Him to the hunting.

Proverbs 4:20
My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. 21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. 22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. 23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. 24 Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee. 25 Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee. 26 Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. 27 Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.

It's not enough for us to shun the occasions of sin, but we must study the methods of duty.
We must have a continual regard to the word of God, principles by which we govern ourselves, because they are our food of physic makeup for us and we must endeavour that it may be always ready to us.

We must keep a watchful eye and a strict hand upon all the motions of our inward man, Pr 4:23.

A great duty required by the laws of wisdom, and in order to our getting and preserving wisdom:

Keep thy heart with all diligence. God, who gave us these souls, gave us a strict charge with them: Man, woman, keep thy heart; take heed to thy spirit, De 4:9. We must maintain a holy jealousy of ourselves, and set a strict guard, accordingly, upon all the avenues of the soul; keep our hearts from doing hurt and getting hurt, from being defiled by sin and disturbed by trouble; keep them as our jewel, as our vineyard; keep a conscience void of offence; keep out bad thoughts; keep up good thoughts; keep the affections upon right objects and in due bounds. Keep them with all keepings (so the word is); there are many ways of keeping things--by care, by strength, by calling in help, and we must use them all in keeping our hearts; and all little enough, so deceitful are they, Jer 17:9. Or above all keepings; we must keep our hearts with more care and diligence than we keep any thing else. We must keep our eyes (Job 31:1), keep our tongues (Ps 34:13), keep our feet (Ec 5:1), but, above all, keep our hearts.

A good reason given for this care, because out of it are the issues of life. Out of a heart well kept will flow living issues, good products, to the glory of God and the edification of others. Or, in general, all the actions of the life flow from the heart, and therefore keeping that is making the tree good and healing the springs. Our lives will be regular or irregular, comfortable or uncomfortable, according as our hearts are kept or neglected.

We must set a watch before the door of our lips, that we offend not with our tongue (Pr 4:24): Put away from thee a froward mouth and perverse lips. Our hearts being naturally corrupt, out of them a great deal of corrupt communication is apt to come, and therefore we must conceive a great dread and detestation of all manner of evil words, cursing, swearing, lying, slandering, brawling, filthiness, and foolish talking, all which come from a froward mouth and perverse lips, that will not be governed either by reason or religion, but contradict both, and which are as unsightly and ill-favoured before God as a crooked distorted mouth drawn awry is before men. All manner of tongue sins, we must, by constant watchfulness and stedfast resolution, put from us, put far from us, abstaining from all words that have an appearance of evil and fearing to learn any such words.

We must make a covenant with our eyes: "Let them look right on and straight before thee, Pr 4:24. Let the eye be fixed and not wandering; let it not rove after every thing that presents itself, for then it will be diverted form good and ensnared in evil. Turn it from beholding vanity; let thy eye be single and not divided; let thy intentions be sincere and uniform, and look not asquint at any by-end." We must keep our eye upon our Master, and be careful to approve ourselves to him; keep our eye upon our rule, and conform to that; keep our eye upon our mark, the prize of the high calling, and direct all towards that. Oculum in metam--The eye upon the goal.

We must act considerately in all we do (Pr 4:26): Ponder the path of thy feet, weigh it (so the word is); "put the word of God in one scale, and what thou hast done, or art about to do, in the other, and see how they agree; be nice and critical in examining whether thy way be good before the Lord and whether it will end well." We must consider our past ways and examine what we have done, and our present ways, what we are doing, whither we are going, and see that we walk circumspectly. It concerns us to consider what are the duties and what the difficulties, what are the advantages and what the dangers, of our way, that we may act accordingly. "Do nothing rashly."

We must act with steadiness, caution, and consistency: "Let all thy ways be established (Pr 4:26) and be not unstable in them, as the double-minded man is; halt not between two, but go on in an even uniform course of obedience; turn not to the right hand not to the left, for there are errors on both hands, and Satan gains his point if he prevails to draw us aside either way. Be very careful to remove thy foot from evil; take heed of extremes, for in them there is evil, and let thy eyes look right on, that thou mayest keep the golden mean." Those that would approve themselves wise must always be watchful.

I really love this quote, Kaella. I think I may have read it before. Where is it from?

Do you realize that we have, every one of us,
been selected and set apart for God and his purposes?
That is the good news that was first promised
and proclaimed through the prophets
in the ancient scriptures.
Now it has been fully revealed through the resurrected
Christ, God's Son and our Lord and Master.
And it is through this Christ we have been
commissioned and empowered to communicate
this Gospel, this Good News of God's saving love,
to the whole human family throughout the world.

This is something to really celebrate!
The blessed Word of God has been enfleshed in us-
and in our brothers and sisters around us.
And while we celebrate, we need as well
to continually remind one another of this spendid
task and encourage one another to be faithful
to our appointment as God's children and servants.
Because of our great deliverence
we are obligated, endebted to every man, woman,
and child in our hemisphere.
Our assignment is to love them into God's Kingdom,
to demonstrate in our lives and in our living,
to proclaim in our speaking and writing,
to reflect in our concern and caring our great God's
love for each of His human creatures.

Yet, even while we seek to transmit God's eternal love,
we are destined to proclaim His holy dispair
concerning those who refuse to embrace
His proffered grace,
who will not seek or accept the truth and who even
dare to suppress it and stifle it in the lives of others.
They become gods unto themselves, these people,
and delibertly flirt with divine wrath when they
beligerantly turn away from their Creator and
rebeliously move out of His orbit for their lives.

God loves and will always love,
but never will He force or coerse His creatures
to accept His love.
If His creatures are determined to focus their lives
upon lesserr things than God and His purposes,
God allows them the freedom to live with that
choice-even if it draws them into the inescapable
cesspools of selfserving and ultimate damnation;
and their freedom to exist apart from God becomes
the very tentacle that strangles and destroys them.

God grant to us the faith to claim His saving love-
and the courage to proclaim it-
knowing full well their will be those who
will listen and will live as well as those
who will doubt and die
