Jesus' Knowledge and Random Questions

I know this question isn't really important. And it has no bearing on my beliefs, but I just think of random things like this all the time and just wonder about things. The question that has popped into my head this week is about Jesus' knowledge. Did he always know that he was God (while he was on earth)? Like as a three year old did he walk around knowing he was God? Or did he just come to realize that all the prophecies sure did describe him?

Another one is the issue of sin before Moses was used to deliver the Law. I had kinda started a thread on this before the crash. I mean I know sin existed before, it was in the garden after all. But did the law just redefine what sin was or something? Why is Moses's hitting of the rock instead of speaking to it the sin people think of instead of when he killed the Egyptian? I mean they are both sins. Is the big difference because the Ten Commandments came somewhere in between those incidents?

Again, the answers to these questions aren't going to change my beliefs one way or another. Just random things I think of. And I know someday I can ask God in person. Just thought I would ask what y'all think.

Also, what are random questions you think of from time to time?

This is one of the mysteries of the Incarnation.

I don't think so. The would seem to be inconsistent with Him being fully human.

I doubt this was the method of realization. It seems more likely to me that He understood it as His human personality developed. At the same time He was realizing that He was an individual person, say around age 4, perhaps He also realized that He was more than just a person.

But did the law just redefine what sin was or something?

The Law is how we recognize that we are sinners. Sin was sin before the giving of the Law.

I dont think it was really what Moses did as much as his motivation behind what he did. He did it a way that glorified him.

Most are questions with no discernable answer. Others are just weird hypotheticals. Stuff like, after the old heavens and earth have passed away, will there somewhere down the line be a new Creation (not talking about the New Jerusalem)? What if any role will we have in it? If we were in fact one day visited by an extraterrestrial race, what implications would it have for the Gospel and should we attempt to prosyletize them? If I'm all alone and slip on something in the kitchen and my arms are flailing about, does God laugh (assuming of course I'm not swearing)? Will there be mint chocolate chip ice cream (and other such 'creature comforts') in heaven?

These are a few of the odd things that occur to me that I have fun speculating on. Of course, I assume we all have broadband connections in heaven and servers that NEVER CRASH!!!!!

The problem is we can't forget He was also fully divine at the same time. Even as an infant I believe Jesus knew who He was. He chose to take on our flesh and our weakness when He took on our humanity. He did remain divine, however, so I find it difficult to believe that God didn't know who He was.

I think He did. Doesn't change anything about Him either... just He knew that and knew what He had to do all along.

The Law gave a better guidline for the nation to live by to keep the nation from lawlessness. But before the Law I believe that they each had guidelines that they knew were right and wrong... even followed the laws of Egypt. The Law of Moses was then the Law for the nation of Isreal.

No that's not it at all. (Personally I think of the hitting the Egyptian myself but...) The sin of hitting the rock instead of speaking to it like God commanded was the sin that God chose would keep Moses from entering into the promised land.

thanks y'all for the input. and yeah, it doesnt change who God is, just some fun stuff to contemplate. I know i like thinking of weird questions hehe.

is hitting the rock and not speaking to it- it seems to break several laws at the same time, perhaps that is why it is such a big deal and why God didn't allow him to enter the promised land. But I think it sure was great of God to let Moses at least see it!

Sin did exist before the Law. No question about that. God has written His law on our hearts (concience.) Paul addressed this in his letter to the Romans. I believe you can find it in the first two chapters. Good reading (as is the rest of the letter.)
