  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Eternal life is a gift from God, not a birthright. Man is not born with an eternal soul.

Eternal life is "to know Him" how are you measuring this? By our soul?

If eternal life is "to know Him" (to know the love of God in Christ) is the measure of this (such as heights, depths ,lengths, and breadths) measured by the nature of God ( after the comprehension of love) which surpasses knowledge or by time itself?

Well we may have to agree to disagree.

I place more importance, and rejoice in the knowledge that it is God who shuts up all men in disobedience that he may show mercy to all.

I give thanks indeed that the crucial act of our Salvation was enacted by Jesus, and by no action or deed of our own.

Grace and Peace to you all....always!

Ok this a complete study in itself, bear in mind that Jesus only spoke in parables, and they are just that...teaching stories not literal realities....let us begin.

Have you noticed yet that in the teaching Story of the Rich man and Lazerus, that Lazerus is never once reffered to as being righteouse, and the rich man is never once described as an un repentant sinner ?

Have you noticed that yet ?

Why do you rejoice that God has shut up men in disobedience? That seems strange to me. Maybe I just don't understand what you are saying.

No action by us? Do you not consider repentence an action? Christ did, through his boundless love, conquer death by death for us, opening the gates of Hades, but it's still up to us to follow him. No? What good is an open gate if we are walking the other way?

Psalm 78:2 I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:

Mat 13:10 Why speakest thou unto them in parables?

Mat 13:11 Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.

Parables are dark sayings. He spake in dark saying "of old" it appears they are "open" upon "the harp"

Psalm 49:4 I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.

Anyone got a harp? ;)

It will be great to hear the harpers harping^_^

So far you have shown nothing but ignorance.

Well it is true that we do toil and suffer reproach because we rely on the Living God who is the Saviour of all mankind especially of those believing....and I have never professed to have all the answers...

Yet in the parable of the Rich man and Lazerus....have you not noticed that Jesus never once reffered to Lazerus being in the Bosom of Abraham for being righteouse, and Jesus never once refers to the Rich man being an un repentant Sinner?

Surely sombody else has noticed this....

It would seem to me that you are basing Salvation on wealth ?

That being the case we need only become poor, wear rags, go and sit outside some rich mans home, and let dogs lick our sores and we are on our way..... where is the righteousness where is the faith ?

Wasn't it the Catholic Church that used the parable of the Rich one and Lazarus to justified a literal roasting eternal Hellfire?

I believe that parable is the most important COVENANTLE parable in the NT/NC and if one understands it, the symbolic "lake of fire" in revelation would also be understood.

I know the "JUDEANS" would have understood it

Luke 16:25 Yet Abraham said--Child/teknon <5043>! be you being reminded!--That thou got the goods-things of you in the life of you, and Lazarus, in like manner, the evils/kaka <2556>; yet now, here he is being Comforted/parakaleitai <3870> , and thou art being Pained/odunasai <3600>.

Notice how it switches from the "singular" to the "plural" in vs 26.......

Luke 16:26 And in all these things, between Us ["israel/gentiles"?] and Ye ["judah/priesthood"?], a great Chasm hath been established,--so that those willing to thru-pass/dia-bhnai <1224> in place toward ye, not be able to, no yet thence toward us may be thru-ferrying/dia-perwsin <1276>.

John 12:10 and the Chief-Priests took counsel, that also Lazarus they may kill, 11 because on account of him many of the Judeans were going away, and were believing in Jesus.

Hello Orthadoxy USA,

Thanks be to God....and to God alone, I am fully aware of what the Church teaches, and have been for many years.

I cannot truthfully say, that I am left wondering how they can manage to mis guide so many people into believing that Salvation is based on wealth....as I know where doctrines like these come from....see the opening verses of 1 Timothy 4.

Instead of blindly believing what misguided men teach you....you should really study and research it out for yourself.

You're changing the subject.

What does that have to do with our soul being immortal?

Forgive me...

Couldn't tell you... I'm not Catholic.

To the Orthodox... Heaven and Hell are two different experiences of the same place.. namely standing in front of the almighty fire of God.

Forgive me...

Incorrect: You are aware of what the western Church has taught... which, I agree with you is very wrong. You do not know what THE Church teaches as the western Church left it long ago.

Forgive me...

1Peter 3:19-20

By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

1 Peter 4:6

For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

These souls were preached to... heard and responded.

What was Adam before the fall?

Immortal. Created... a beginning... but with no end.

Death is the seperation of the body from the soul.

The soul remains. The body decays.

Forgive me...
