  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

So, what is the viable alternative to Christian values.....
indoctrinate our youth in MTV, Reality Shows , The Man Show , "I-Me-Mine", & the bimbo's next door ?

Revival is basically a self examination of our lives ... what can I do better , differently , or change ...
in me , to be a better person ... so the weight of the world drives them to their knees & God , not to drugs , alcohol , sex , suicide ....

So you would state that "Philippians 4.8 what is good , lovely , holy , true , of good report" .... is not far better than gangsters-rap , racism , secular humanism , horror films , radical Islam,

You can be an atheist and still be perfectly ethical.
In fact the atheist network is planning on doing an aid campain for developing and war-torn countries, much like those that religious organizations do.

I wish we got to smash things in church.

At 7:30 we have an icon of George W. Bush! (aren't these people supposed to be Children of the Radical Reformation?)

Edit: At 9:30 they mention pilgrims (christian tourists) to megachurches in Colorada Springs. Some "Evangelicals" they are. (and did New Life Church remind anyone else of a boxing/wrestling/UFC arena?)

I was troubled by the movie.
The kids themselves were very likeable - no, loveable. You related to them, and if you grew up in religious family like I did, you can relate to going to church camp, about the presure to believe, or the shame, and rarely the freedom to choose.

But the reason it troubled me was that it was so manipulative. They would tell the kids to search their hearts, search and look for those terrible, terrible things they've done. But the are 8 or 9 years old! So, they are all crying, weeping, down on the floor, "Pleeeease forgive me Jesus..." Then they say, "Who's ready to die for Jesus?" And then the children are used as pawns for their political agenda.

But you don't see them teaching the kids how to simply live by loving their neighbor, giving to those in need, of returning curse with blessing.

If anything, they are begging for the forgiveness that they've already been given. Is that a healthy thing to teach kids - that every time they sin, they must break down, beg God for forgiveness, even though the bible says that acceptance of Christ forgives all of your sins?

Should children be taught that they must tapdance to get God's attention? (The sweet little girl goes on to say that God only comes to the churches where people are up and excited and cheering for him. He doesn't go to churches where people simply sit still, or are low key in their worship. Where do you think she got that idea?) I believe that it is God that is tapdancing trying to get our attention, not the other way around.

There was also that idea that God should be with us in all things:
The girl who prays and asks God to help her be true in her aim, and for his spirit to guide this ball, and she commands this ball to roll straight in Jesus' name...
And it's no surprise as the mother also prays while they are in the car about something...

It reminded me of a skit from Saturday Night Live where Sally Field play's a woman that asks Jesus to help her wax her floor clean, and with his grace, help take out the skuff mark, and...
Jesus appears and says, 'um, it's really nice that you talk to me and everything, but for EVERYTHING? You know, there is famine, a war going on...I'm KIND OF BUSY!!"

And i was also troubled by the fact that when asked about the freedom of religion, the director alluded to the fact that it's better to not have the freedom of religion if that would lead people to God.

That, and the fact that they use Jack Chick tracts.

I just finished watching all of this film.. and I have to say.. it was horrific. It makes me want to deny any affiliation with Christianity. It angers me. It makes me want to kick that woman in the face.. so hard. Yea ... wow ...
I havent seen it but it sounds like a movie meant to scare people away from being Christians. what do you think?

I dunno; I see it as a wakeup call to those of us who still have our sanity and yet have blindly assumed that this sort of thing doesn't matter.

It's past time we stood up and made it clear to the rest of the world one thing: these people aren't Christians. There is not a hint of God's Love in their message.

Why can't we "Liberal's" and "Moderate" Christians start taking a stand like the "Fundamentals" do?
Why can't we start getting our kids hyped up like they do their kids?
I havent watched this movie, but maybe this movie is an eye opener that its time that we talk to our kids...
Maybe its time we make Christianity exciting for our kids?

Hmmm...the omnious music throughout and the 'message' at the end ("I dare you to do nothing") doesn't set much of a negative mood, does it? o_O

I haven't seen the actual movie yet, but the previews and trailers and everything seem to make it very negative. I don't know whether or not it is or what intention the movie was really done with. I'll let you know after I've actually watched the whole thing.

I just saw the movie and I wondered the same thing.
For the record I think the film makers did a really good job of showing something how it is and letting the audience conclude for themselves how they feel. I know the people in the movie (With the exception of Ted Haggard) where very happy with the film and how they where portrayed.

I just got done watching this movie...and I don't really have much to say. People should be allowed to believe what they want and how they want...however it seems like the children aren't really being 'taught' to worship in their own personal way. A lot of the things I've heard them say are typical sayings I've heard in church time and time again. It makes me wonder, can these people not even articulate these thoughts into their own words? It makes me sad that they've been taught it's WRONG to not be charismatic.

And that part where she prayed over the pews and over the PowerPoint presentation so Satan wouldn't interfere was kind of odd. I can understand praying that your sermon will go well, but is it really necessary to wave your hands around and say typical phrases?

The pastor (Pastress?) in this movie says it outright that she is indoctrinating the children. Her justification for doing it is because other religions do it.

I also thought it was funny when they randomly bash harry potter near the beginning, "And while I'm on the subject, Harry potter is a warlock! Back in the old testament a warlock would've been executed! You don't make heroes out of warlocks!"

And I think it's interesting how the Christian praise band had a DJ, yet it didn't help the music sound any different. Just trying to be 'edgy' to catch on with kids.

I swear, sometimes I swear this is just a big marketing scheme to change how the government works. XD

:D Funniest part in the movie. And corny.

As an non-American, all this right vs. left, liberals vs. conservatives is just funny too me. Also, never throughout the film did I hear the preacher lady talk about reaching out ppl, loving your neighbor..you know, the "basic" stuff. And there was this kid who kneeled down and confessed that he sometimes didn't believe what the bible said. That was just heartbreaking.

As horrible as it was, it did just what a good documentary is supposed to do. At least, imo. But it was boring, thought not as boring as An Inconvinient Truth.

And the cover of the DVD is kinda creepy.
