  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm ready to throw pillows at the television!

I cried ALL the way through the book (I only got 1/2 way and couldn't read more), and now I'm crying ALL the way through the movie.

How could a mum do that? How can she vilify one daughter whilst bragging about the other...

I am horrified that this is a true story!

How can people be so cruel???

I have a deep moral core of what is right and wrong, and if something flies in the face of that, I am not a nice person to be around for the next few days.

Oh this is making me so angry!

I don't know why Mum used me so badly as I was the only one who stood by her through hell and high water. Right to the end almost. And, I was the last one she phoned before she died. She loved me...but throughout my life...Sometimes it was a pure nightmare.
Other times was beautiful.
Consequently, my sister thinks she is the superior one. She disliked Mum. And, Mum adored her.
Nooo...I'm not a one to be bragged about. But, I'm the one who can say with all honesty, I loved Mum.

And that is a special thing you have - love :)

Some people shut themselves off from it so much.

I don't know why I get so upset at the unjustness of all of this - but it sits in the core of my heart and I go to bed crying at night about why there is so much unjustness in the world...

Of course it does! You are a Child of God Sasch! But this is an unjust world. A world where unfairness reigns supreme. I stood back and watched from the outside for many years and know it all backwards.
I watch it on 'Today Tonight", and, on 'A Current Affair'...and grieve at the unfairness in the world.
But matter how hard your heart may break, how many tears you shed, how much your heart may ache, you will never change the world.
All you can do is offer support and learn by what you see. Reach out and comfort. And be a light to the world. And, throughout you life continue to do so with pride in your achievements, prayer in your heart, and a song of joy on your lips. To walk forward through the haze and shine that light. And when you do that, let them know that God is Supreme. That He takes you hand...and leads you to love your fellowman.

KIRA!!:hug::hug:

It's by hardness that we are strengthened honey. To both you girls...I may be able to read the book now.
We have to experience alot of hurt to be able to understand fully how others feel and take them in our arms when they are hurting. To be able to love and understand them. To be able to listen to their stories and know how they must feel. To be able to wipe away their tears. Believe me, God knows what He is doing when He moulds a person, and attempts to make them a vessel of honour.
It takes years to understand this. Years of tears, heartache, sorrow, depression, shock, and horror. And, the person at some time of their life may prefer suicide rather than face another day of living. But, they go on! They step into a new day with more knowledge and love for the suffering in their hearts! And, they learn to forgive so naturally...to love more naturally...to accept more naturally. And this is what it is all about.
Love...forgiveness...acceptance. Being moulded into a vessel of honour.
After all, the finest sword man can own must pass through the fire, be belted and shaped.
A diamond is dull and lifeless until it goes through much sawing, grinding and faceting to allow the colours to shine....and be admired....

Too true, Bev...

I'm not discrediting World Vision or Compassion here (altho Compassion has a better 'to-child' ratio than WV), but a lot of the money does get caught up in Accountancy and Admin.

Another idea is to find out names of OTHER orphanages that have less overheads, and therefore a better chance of your money getting to the kids. In Uganda, there is Sanyu Babies Home and Watoto Village to name a couple, whereas in South Africa I know of TLC (the love of christ) an orphanage for children, particularly those with or abandoned by AIDS.

Just a thought!

I believe it may be true Kean. I remember watching a programme on TV (think it was called Cambodia Sleeping). In this film they exposed World Vision with it's massive luxurious masion, swimming pools etc; behind high walls while the poverty was outside.

I also remember a woman I know who sponsored a child. Her husband did the same. But, when they got the photo's, they both received one of an identical chld.

But, it happens! Sadly, I don't have alot of trust in man when they are asking for money like that.

I balled all the way through the movie too. I didn't know it was a true story though. How could anyone do that. I find that hard to beleive (as a mother myself, but then as yet I only have one child) Yeah, I don't know, I didn't think much of the daughter either. (Meg not Jessica)

Yeah - she was a bit weak, caving in and agreeing to whatever mummy said (reminds me a bit of me at 16)...

Anyway - I'm not going to completely diss WV - they were fantastic to us in the Rift Valley - and that was hardly a high class facility!!!
