Hmmm...

There is SO MUCH about this entire Jessica Lynch story that has a particular odor of made up that one has to question EVERYTHING about this story....

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if she had been raped and sodomised. There appears to be some physical evidence of an anal rape, but she remembers nothing about it.

She wasn't treated brutally by everyone she came into contact with, though. Quite the opposite - there were those that treated her with compassion and respect and tried to help her.

Here's the NY Times story where she expresses her dismay at being used as a propoganda tool.

I agree lunachick - this is the basis of my objection to having women in the battle, even in support positions. They are much more vulnerable to degrading treatment than men. :sigh:
I think women can be combatants. Many women are very tough. They have a high pain threshhold and strong minds. Men can also be subjected to a great deal of torture and indignity in war, too.

I'm not trying to play down rape here, but just because men don't generally get raped, doesn't mean they suffer less.

Of course, the ideal is not to have wars...but... :sigh: :(

I dread the clearly-racist backlash this is going to cause. A lot of racist stuff gets sublimated into fear of the colored phallus (sorry - that's the best way I could think of to put it) and irrational terror of rape by non-white people (eg Birth of a Nation). I'd be genuinely surprised if we didn't see concomittant 'we've got to protect our white women from these darky animals' sentiments. With European ideas about Arabs, this kind of thought has quite a long pedigree - the trope of the sexually ravenous and animalistic Turk that steals white women has been around for hundreds of years.

I think you're missing my point - when whites rape people, you hear about how horrible that person is - when it's a non-white, you'll hear about the race: "those monstrous Arabs" and whatnot.

obviously, this isn't going to come from all quarters, especially in this pretty enlightened day and age, but if you keep your eyes open or listen to redneck AM talk shows, you'll hear what I'm talking about.

I detest the idea of human beings on the battlefield.

I am also pretty disgusted over how sensationalized this whole thing has become for Lynch. Here rescue was dramatized from the beginning. I imagine it must be horribly embarassing for her to have to dwell on this.

I got your point. Sorry, I didn't make myself very clear, and my post must've appeared to being sarcastic at you. It wasn't meant to be, I had an image in my head of just the very righteous people you are talking about, and that's who I was kinda addressing.

Sorry - it's the wee hours of the night over here. I should really crash, my brain is getting vaguer and vaguer with each passing minute!

I think I heard about this from Coast to Coast am or Alex Jones on the radio. Nothing like a radio show on nothing but Conspiracies. Since most TV shows are ****, I'd rather listen to some radio, watch some TBN, read the Bible...............

Just an other example of the Government/Army telling a LIE.
