The Jerusalem Open House chief organizer announced the cancellation of the World Pride parade which was scheduled for August 10. Other related activities will proceed.

This article says nothing about the decision to move it to Tel Aviv, so I assume that's still a possibility.

The one time I met Avi ben Mordechai, he'd brought video of various places in Israel. Commenting on the pollution that could be seen over Tel Aviv, he said, "that city is under a curse because the people won't follow Torah."

Well, Tel Aviv could still host the world pride parade, and has stated interest in becoming the "Gay Capital of the World." We serve a God that has been known to rain fire from heaven on sinful cities. Based on the recent behavior of Tel Aviv, is it possible he's planning to do it again? I can honestly say I hope not, as the loss of any human life is unfortunate.

I haven't had anything to do with Avi in several years, as his theology is totally whacked-out and seems to change as often as the direction of the wind. However, in this instance, I have to wonder if he was on to something...

I have heard this about Tel Aviv from several different people who have widely different beliefs. I must say it's not my favorite place in Israel. Except for being on the Sea it has no beauty and no history.

But that's wonderful news about the parade.

Not entirely true. The proper name of the city is Tel Aviv-Yafo. Yafo (Joppa) is where Simon the tanner lived, which is where Peter was staying when he had his vision in Acts 10.

I agree with the other parts of your assessment, though. There's something about that place that just feels "weird," and I can't put my finger on why.

But Tel Aviv per se is not Jaffa. I've been to Jaffa and it's absolutely beautiful. A world apart from Tel Aviv, though only a couple of miles away. The only part of Tel Aviv that's remotely attractive is the hotel area - the rest is falling down buildings - looks like a bombed out city. If I were with the embassy, I'd much rather be in Jerusalem. :)

Did you go there, iitb?

I stayed at Beit Immanuel in Jaffa which is Messianic. We went to the roof of the house to worship at sunset and the most amazing things happened on that roof when they blew the shofars.

Creeps me out also. I thought it was just the condition of the city but it's probably got a nasty power/principality above it!

And with the suicide bombers able to get into Tel Aviv with some consistency, I'd rather be in Jerusalem where it's safer!

Organizers of the Gay Pride events in Jerusalem have pre-empted what was likely to be a police cancellation of their parade, calling it off. But "no room for complacency," say anti-march activists.

The organizers of next month's Gay Pride events in Jerusalem say they will re-schedule the march after a cease-fire is achieved or announced between Israel and Moslem terrorists.

I could be wrong, but I think I owe Zayit an "I told you so!" :p

Seriously, this means we should continue to pray about this, as they are planning to reschedule.
