  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I think you are going to be disappointed. This isn't the smoking gun you are believing it to be.

I was thinking on this and thought you very well could be right, until I saw this breakdown last night.

Did Donald Trump just sink Jeff Sessions?

Lucky for Him lying to Congress is not the same as lying in a courtroom or lying to the FBI... when you lie to congress and are found out, congress gives you the opportunity to "amend" your testimony.... so you still may be right. But my money is still on Him being in big trouble. I expect he will resign.

Q: did you have any contact with russians during the campaign?
A: (under oath) no
-story breaks about russian contact-
A: oh, you mean *that* russia.

I suspect that you're not interested in the context and the actual question and answer between Frankin and Session... but just in case anyone else who is reasonable would like to read it for themselves and make a judgement, here it is....

FRANKEN: OK. CNN has just published a story and I’m telling you this about a news story that’s just been published. I’m not expecting you to know whether or not it’s true or not. But CNN just published a story alleging that the intelligence community provided documents to the president-elect last week that included information that quote, “Russian operatives claimed to have compromising personal and financial information about Mr. Trump.” These documents also allegedly say quote, “There was a continuing exchange of information during the campaign between Trump’s surrogates and intermediaries for the Russian government.” Now, again, I’m telling you this as it’s coming out, so you know. But if it’s true, it’s obviously extremely serious and if there is any evidence that anyone affiliated with the Trump campaign communicated with the Russian government in the course of this campaign, what will you do? SESSIONS: Senator Franken, I’m not aware of any of those activities. I have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign and I didn’t have – did not have communications with the Russians, and I’m unable to comment on it.

Read more at: Why Would Jeff Sessions Lie in Answer to a Question He Wasn't Asked?

BTW... Senators meet and talk with foreign Ambassadors regularly(just ask Democrat Senator Clair McCaskil - lol). There was nothing nefarious about Sessions meetings/talks with the Russian ambassador. This all a bunch of fabricated crap. More senseless wailing and gnashing of teeth from the left because they lost the election. Very shameful.

So as long as what you are lying to congress about isn't a big deal, go ahead and lie?

What I find also interesting (as long as we are identifying "Context") is the fact that Sessions didn't even answer Senator Franken's Question of "if it were true, what would you do?"

His answer was "I don't have any knowledge of it being true". which was not an answer.. The Senator wanted to find out from Sessions what he would do IF IT WERE true.... The AG refused to answer, which as I take it, means the answer to "what would you do if it were true" is "I would do NOTHING."

BTW... Senators meet and talk with foreign Ambassadors regularly

Yes they do, though normally they don't lie to Congress about it when asked.

He will resign.

You don't know that. None of us do. His lying about it doesn't seem to ease the suspicions, though.
