  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I think most people don't know the difference between jealousy (wanting to keep something you already possess) and envy (wanting to have something someone else possesses).
I have an unusual situation where I very rarely get jealous (what is mine I'm happy to share with others), but I struggle with feelings of envy of what others have (I don't begrudge them having it, but I want it myself).

I am of the feeling that both these emotions are unhealthy and destructive. I can't get my head around the concept of "Good Jealousy". (Or Good Hatred and Good Killing either).

I actually keep a list of people that could use a good killing...;)

I don't think there is such a thing. People talk, or sometimes brag, about God being a jealous God, but to me, that seems to be anthromophoposizing God like a man jealous of his wife smiling at a waiter.

As far as envy, I usually spend time chanting Thank You, and soon find that I am Thankful for what I have, and realize what I have been given, as opposed to what I don't have.

I also strongly believe that if you aren't happy without what you want, getting those things will not make you any happier.
