  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Did anyone watch the NBC Live production last night?

I loved it. This was one of the high points:

I watched the last two-thirds of it, and then sat there wishing I had watched the first third. Of course, we all know it's not quite a recap of the Gospel accounts. But yes, from what I saw of it, it was done well for a Live T.V. version of that Broadway play.

I have heard the original broadway recording (so I am familiar with all of the tunes) and saw the movie version.

But this was incredible.

I have a friend (pastors a small church now) that came to faith from playing Jesus in a local (Cleveland OH) community theater version back in the early 1970s.

It's interesting to hear that someone came to faith through playing the lead role in this production. Like you, my wife is familiar with the show and all of its tunes, and she introduced me to it some time back. Of course the music is good, which is usual for just about any of the various Andrew Lloyd Weber musicals.

In general I loved it. I thought Sara Barellis was particularly exceptional. I really loved the costuming and the decision to stage it like a concert instead of a play. I'm not sure I agree with casting 100%. I liked the idea of casting an actual celeb as Jesus, but John Legend came across to me as bored the entire time. Then again that's how he generally comes across to me. Also while I enjoyed Alice Cooper as a fame seeking sycophant, I always picture Herod as being more of a bumbling baffon and his interpretation seemed more... psychotic maybe? I'm not sure.
