Jazz recomendations for a newbie

Just like the title says. I'm specifically looking for stuff that has a heavy bass guitar to it. I love the bass!!

Esperanza Spalding - Esperanza (album)

She plays acoustic bass, she's a vocalist, and she writes her own stuff. I was pretty excited when she first came out a few years back.

Weather Report seems like the obvious answer, they've got Jaco who seems to be a god amongst bass players. Heavy Weather seems like a good starting place, although frankly it's not my favourite by them.

My suggestion would be more to look up everything Paul Chambers and Charles Mingus ever did. Chambers on Giant Steps is one of my favourite examples of great bass playing.

Are you specifically looking for stuff with electric bass, not acoustic (upright)?

If it is bass you like you must listen to Stanley Clarke. An electric and acoustic bass master.

Braxton Brothers have a really nice smooth Christmas cd out " A Jazz Noel" . Try it.

How about Jazz fusion? Check out Return to Forever's "Romantic Warrior". All star line up with Stanley Clarke on bass, Chick Corea on keys, Lenny White on drums and Al Di Meola on guitar.

It'll blow your socks off, imho.
