  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'm a big fan of Charlie Mingus, and other post-bop stuff (Coltrane, Davis, Roach, Cannonball - that whole crew) I'm also a huge fan of Sonny Rollins. I love me some Tenor Madness. I think he is one of the greatest improvisers of our time.
Oh, and Gerry Mulligan for representing on the Bari.

Swing is good when you're dancing. Great fun!

Any recomendations for NEW jazz artists that are out there? Here are a couple of mine.

David Sanchez (tenor and soprano sax player). Very latin. Very cool.

Cassandra Wilson (vocalist). Just cuz she has this one album called Traveling Miles where she takes Miles Davis music and gives it lyrics. Some of it I don't like, but I admire her for the idea. And she does have a great voice.
Medeski, Martin and Wood are funky. Oh and Metalwood.

Who else?

Hiromi - Some people hesitate to call her Jazz, but she plays some GREAT fusion type stuff.

Julian Lage - Phenomenal guitar player. He's probably almost 18 now. He recorded with Gary Burton on he "Generations" record. He was 16 at the time of the recording. Burton just put out a new recording called "Next Generation" and that also has Lage on it. When he starts going solo he'll be amazing.
