• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
 • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Actually, I've seen a couple of Japanese flags around CF, so I think there are at least a couple of other members who live here. I really have no idea whether or not they're Christians, though. (nor do I know if they're Japanese or, like myself, foreigners living in Japan.) Anyway, best of luck to you, friend!

Hai Genki Desu, hmmm not sure what the second half of the convo means sorry ^^;

She was just asking what your name is. The roumaji for "namae / 名前 " had an incorrect "i" thrown in there, so maybe that's what confused you.

So lucky :( dont suppose anyone wants to let me rent a room for a week?

Get involved with one of those English teaching programs over there. That's one way to get a ticket. They have a demand for native English speakers 'cause learning English from a non native English speaker passes on inherent ennunciation difficulties.

I plan to visit Japan in a few years to see if it's worth living in.

If I like the place and can stand it, I shall be expatriating myself from the US and moving to Japan.

Of course I have to scout out Iceland as well. If neither country fits me, it's off to mainland Europe!

I gave some serious thought to living in Japan permanently but after 11 years and having shed the novelty long since it came down to always being the outsider. Some might relish that but I got tired of it. Though I dearly love the people, I got tired of their social roboticism as well.

True enough, if you come here, you should be prepared for the fact that you'll always be an outsider. Speaking the language will certainly help in this regard -- and by that I don't mean the stuttering, butchered mess that dribbles out when most foreigners try to speak Japanese, but rather something that's half-way comprehensible. But even at that, you need to know that no matter how long you've lived here or how well you speak the language, you're never going to be accepted as "Japanese". That's just the way it is. I've long since realized that, and it doesn't bother me too much. For me, the positives of living here far outweigh the negatives.

All of that said, Japan isn't really any different than many other ethnically homogenous countries / regions in the world. If you're a westerner living in Korea, or certain parts of China, India etc. you just have to accept the fact that you're going to be stared at and never really "fit in".

I'm not a Christian but I lived there for 11 years. Had a car and have driven from the southern most point on Kyushu to the northern most point on Hokkaido. My favorite place to live was in Kyushu. Beautiful place, from the volcanoes to the beaches and everything else in between. Aitai
Since I'm pondering spending a year(or years) in Japan in the future...

...how about a short essay on the different areas of Japan; outlining the positives and negatives! ;)

I've only seem small parts of Kyushu myself so far. Even still, I love Japan. If only it wasn't so bloody expensive. I can do a heck of a lot more with my money in Korea.

Not quite sure if you're being sarcastic or not, doesn't translate well in type, but if you'd like to pick my brain about my experiences then fire away with the questions.

I was sarcastic in the sence that I don't expect you do to it, but I was not being sarcastic in that I would love to read it if you wrote about your experiences.

Really, a kind of comparison and contrast with the areas of Japan that you've been in long enough to form an opinion on would be absolutely phenomenal.

How about say... Fukuoka compared with Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and a northern city/town in northern Honshu or Hokkaido (Aomari, Akita, Sapporo, etc.)?

I've only been to Fukuoka myself, so I don't have anything to compare it with.

Sorry, but I won't be having time to grade the paper! ;)
