Dear Brothers and Sisters,
The first reading for today’s Mass concerns Hannah in the Old Testament, book of Samuel (1 Sm 1:1-8). In pondering this reading and the Gospel especially which is now taking us into the beginning of Jesus’ Public Ministry, I’m inclined to dwell on the need for increased devotion to Jesus through Mary in these difficult days.
Hannah’s weeping reminds me of Mary our Mother who in these days is weeping for many within the Church who seem not to care that Jesus said, from His Cross, First to Mary:
Come Holy Spirit, fill us as you filled Mary with Jesus, Who is our Way, our Truth and our Life. O Jesus living in Mary, come and live in Your servants in the Spirit of Your Holiness! Jesus we trust in You. Mary, Mother and Model for the Church pray for us. Holy Spirit, bring us into that “Full Truth” Jesus promised You would bring. Amen.

And then to John His Beloved disciple standing with her at the foot of the Cross:
“Son, behold your Mother”.
