  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Youngs literal reads thus: Jam 5:16 Be confessing to one another the trespasses, and be praying for one another, that ye may be healed; very strong is a working supplication of a righteous man;

The Literal transltion of the Holy Bible reads:Jam 5:16 Confess to one another the deviations from the Law, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. Very strong is a righteous petition, being made effective.

The Analytical- Literal translation reads: Jam 5:16 You* yourselves be confessing your transgressions to one another, and be praying for one another, in order that you* shall be healed [or, restored]. [The] petition of a righteous [person] itself has very powerful [or, many supernatural] effects.

You may consider asking this question in the Orthodox forum. :) after all, many there speak greek

Its dangerous to ask orthodox-greek readers to translate biblical greek. They read into it sometimes.
OH okay . . . .

What you mean is that when they read it - they don't come to the same conclusions you do.

Prayer is an attitude; an ongoing conversation. It is not a spin of the lottery wheel hoping you will land on the jackpot. Prayer does not twist the arm of an unwillling God.
Prayer does move God but NOT by intimidation - ratehr by our heart and motivations in prayer. :)

For some of you guys who know a little of New Testament Greek could you give me a literal translation of James 5:16b? I was thinking it should probably read, "The prayer of a righteous man prevails much in its inworking." What you think?
For a literal rendition, I would translate it: "The petition of a righteous person, being effective, has great power." For a more dynamically equivalent translation, one could go with: "The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective."
