Ok, so besides me posing with wax museum figures whilst in London, I also took a couple of Ripper Walk tours. One was done by an internationally recognized expert, Donald Rumbelow, whose book I bought and had him sign, and the second was conducted by one of the Beefeaters from the Tower of London whom took to moonlighting as a Ripper guide.

Anyway, the tours combined showed me about 90% of the things I wanted to see, as I have always been interested in the case. I got some good pictures, which will be online shortly, once I size them, etc.

Before I do that...has anybody heard of this interesting tidbit?

The killer left a message after one of the murders:

"the juwes are the men that will not be blamed for nothing"

The letters can be rearranged to say...

FG Abberline,

Ha!
Hate won
Sent the women to Hell

-MJ Druitt

Abberline was the detective in the case and Druitt was a prime suspect.

Interesting anagram, no?

I'm sure it was interesting, DF....but....does anyone find this concept just a bit strange? I mean, what do you think the reaction would be if over here we had 'Boston Strangler Tours' or 'Atlanta Murder Tours'. Or any other high profile serial murder cases. I'm sure there have been other serial murder cases in Britain since Jack, are tours given on those? What is different?

I'm truly curious.

You mean like a Son of Sam tour, or a Dahmer one?

It's something that's considdered a 'historic mystery', and therefor has great popularity. It was a high profile case at the time with suspicions even leading towards people at the court. The fact that the case was never solved, that there were alligations of people trying to muffle things under the carpet are what kept it alive. Like the 'murder on Kennedy' still is alive, by virtue of all the speculations...
BTW... if you want 'gruesome'... try London Dungeon, that's much worst! Myself, although I'm an avid visitor in London, (10 times I think end of august) I've never felt tempted by the Jack the Ripper tours.

I suppose the mystery is a reason. But it still seems odd. After all, it will never be solved. It's not like some tourists is hoping to uncover a previously undiscovered clue or something. I guess I just don't understand the fascination with horror that is, let's face it, very popular. Movies, novels, etc... *shrug* I only watch comedies or 'girl' flicks. ;)

Peace be with you!

I know what you ment. The only reason I ever set foot in the London Dungeon was because it was part of a school outing for some very mysterious reason.
I like historic mysteries, but I don't like horror, probably why Jack the Ripper never really fascinated me. There's a torture museum in Antwerp, just about 5 mins walking in between my previous home and my current home. I've never set foot in it. And I go to almost every museum: the sugar museum, the broom museum... all have been known to capture my interest.
I think part of the atraction IS the fact that it's never solved. I was personally quite dissapointed that they used modern DNA technology in the heart in... I think.. the Sacré Coeur in France to make certain it did indeed belong to the young Dauphin so that the legend that he had escaped and lived instead of dying in the bastille was finnished....

Abberline was a freemason, and the speeling of "juwes" is a masons way of doing it. I daresay he scrubbed it out to protect his "brother."

That is a possibility.

Also, Mitre Square was the place where Eddowes was killed. Both the Mitre and the Square are Masonic items.

There are more Masonic connections, but I don't know how much I buy into them at this point.

I think a more likely suspect was "Doctor" Tumbelty, an American that many believe is the first American serial killer.
