  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

When did you start playing chess?

I don't remember, maybe at age of six or so? My father taught me to play it, but when I started winning, he didn't want to play with me anymore, lol. When I was 12 or so, I went to chess club and played actively there for a year, I played in some school tournaments during that time too. I still remember one occasion when some reporter in a tournament randomly picked me to interview some player there and I got confused by the situation and said something totally dumb and it ended up in the story in newspaper. Not my favorite memory.

But after one year the guy who was "coach" (I don't know if that word is used in chess?) there moved away and since then I haven't played it competitively, just with friends occasionally.

Scared to make one.

You guys are pretty inquisitive.

You can always use your right to remain silent if you don't want to answer some question ;)

Mine was my mom. She was pretty good at it. l was like 6 or 7 yrs old then.
My friends in highschool were also in chess club so we almost always played everyday before. Now I'm too rusty. Haha

I'll think about it. For now I'm enjoying asking you guys questions.

How's your love life?

I don't have any pets myself. I would like to have either a cat or a snake (I got some experience with rainbow boa and I liked it very much) , but haven't yet got any.

My favorite animal, hmmm. I like many animals, in different ways. Tiger is cool, so are whales. I think any large predator animal is fascinating because of their strenght.

I've also been always had geekish interest about ants, their sociology keeps interesting me. They live like they were not individuals at all, but as if they were bodyparts of bigger organism, the nest.

Umh, thats difficult one. If based on how many times I've seen the movie, it would likely be Star Wars, but it's more than one movie so I don't think if that counts. I think Forrest Gump is a very good movie too.

I could also say HP or LOTR but because Star Wars is not based on a book, it lacks that "book vs movie" - thing which other two of those have and that gives it slight advantage as a movie.

What is your view on the lack of personal connection within today's society?

Hello and thank you for a thoughtful question!

I could come up with three points:

1) I think people have become more and more independent (economically mostly, also culturally) so some of those connections we seemingly lack, we wouldn't even have wanted to begin with. Like, in most of the other historical eras, average people would have been pretty much stuck living with their relatives, no matter did they like them or not. Nowadays people are more free to choose how much they want to be connected with others.

2) As a byproduct of 1, it's possible that we don't so naturally connect with other people as people did back in times, because we are less used to it, and that might lead to a situations when someone would want to have company, but can't. But I consider this to be more like downside of a good thing, than a bad thing.

3) Partly, it might have just taken new forms. Like we have developed new means for being connected, like cellphones and internet. I think this is not a threat for old school connection, it's just new form of it.

As you might tell by my answers, I have rather individualistic views :)
