I think that "Dallas" character J.R. Ewing, as portrayed by actor Larry Hagman, was one of the greatest television characters of all time. If not the greatest. I used to watch Dallas when I was a kid. Of course, I was too young to understand any of it. I don't know why I liked it. I thought Sue Ellen was very pretty. But I remember my parents really enjoying the *ev-il* JR character, and usually laughing at whatever he said.I recently saw an old episode of Knot's Landing (Dallas spinoff) and JR was a guest character. The first moment of his first scene he smiled and warmly greeted his brother and sister-in-law, which was accompanied (ironically) by ominous music, which made a startling effect. I don't know if it was the writers, directors, or Hagman himself, but the whole idea truly was genius. I've thought of even buying a DVD. But what I would really like is a "best of JR" DVD that just focused on his plotlines.
